PRIMARY PURPOSE: Accountable for planning and executing security operations for all events, including baseball games, festivals, concerts, and other associated large-scale activities. Collaborate with department team to develop security strategies, implement security procedures, and supervise event security personnel.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
- Prepare written security operations plans for all event days (with greater than 250 attendees), including baseball games, festivals, concerts, and other associated activities. This includes planning, budgeting, staff coordination, and engagement (as needed) with vendors and third-party security teams.
- Manage the Event Safety and Security Team (upwards of 200 seasonal employees), to include staff hiring, scheduling, payroll, engagement, and discipline within a union structure.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive security training program for all event security personnel, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to handle various security scenarios effectively.
- Ensure staff compliance with defined organizational and MLB security policies., This includes the maintenance of security manuals, standard operating procedures, post orders, and the Employee handbook.
- Continuously identify and act on opportunities to improve crowd management, evacuation preparedness, threat awareness and mitigation, risk analysis, and conflict de-escalation strategies.
- Stay updated and proficient in event-related security and safety technologies, including radios, magnetometers, secondary screening technologies, internal security platforms, and other emerging technologies as required. This includes researching new technologies that may impact event operations.
- Support engagement and planning with vendors and partners supporting events, including Cleveland Police, Cleveland Fire, Medical Staff, Explosives Canines, and others as needed.
- Represent the Cleveland Guardians at appropriate working groups, panels, tabletop exercises, and MLB meetings, sharing insights and contributing to the development of best practices in event security.
- Conduct research, analyze data, and present findings to propose and defend new security operations positions. This may include resource requests, process changes, and operational outcomes.
- Collaborate with Federal, State, Local, and Private sector partners on safety and security practices as they pertain to Progressive Field. Partner with other business areas to support the fan experience.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
- Extensive experience in event security management, preferably in a large-scale venue or sports environment.
- Robust leadership and team management skills, with the ability to effectively supervise and motivate a diverse team of security personnel.
- In-depth knowledge of security protocols, emergency response procedures, and crowd management techniques.
- Previous familiarity with security technologies and systems used in event environments.
- Knowledge of MLB security standards and regulations is a plus.
- At least 5 years of people leadership experience required
- At least 5 years of security, facility management, or equivalent experience required.
- Previous experience in venue/event security, law enforcement, or military preferred.
