Job Description
Nord Family Network Director’s Fellowship in Digital Innovation and Technology Services
Digital Innovation and Technology Services is looking for tech-minded students to work with us on our PC Upgrade project. Students will work with technicians to learn about technology lifecycle planning along with PC preparation and inventorying. They will gain skills in the Windows Deployment Services imaging system, Windows operation system configuration, PC hardware configuration and component replacement, and hardware deployment planning.
Over the course of the internship, the selected candidate will produce a supply of approximately 100 ready-to-deploy PCs installed with our customized Windows image and prepared with all applicable security updates as well as a PC inventory list noting serial numbers and hardware models. If time allows, they may also deploy some of the newly prepared PCs to CMA users. First, we will review how CMA has developed its computer lifecycle, how we manage our inventory, how we plan our PC upgrades, and how we select hardware to be purchased. The candidate will then be taught how to add any necessary components such as extra memory to our selected hardware and how to use Windows Deployment Services to install our customized operating system. Then the candidate will be responsible for preparing our newly purchased supply of computers by adding components, installing Windows and any available updates, and maintaining an inventory of model and serial numbers for the computers they prepare.
By completing this internship, the selected candidate will gain experience in hardware selection, preparation, and deployment, learn how to choose specifications of new systems and components, learn how to use Windows Deployment Services to automate and install customized operating system configurations, learn best practices for hardware inventory and system lifecycle planning, and practice and refine hardware and software troubleshooting skills.
