General Description
Under the direction of the Activity Director, the Activity Aide assists in carrying out a
planned activity program for residents. This position requires knowledge of age specific
developmental factors specific to adult and geriatric residents. The Activity Aide will
assist in activities for geriatric residents with therapeutic, neurological, and medical
needs. Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and /or
holidays.
Essential Duties
1. Adjusts to changes in unit/shift assignments to meet resident and family needs as
it relates to the activity program.
2. Notifies the Activity Director of supplies needed for the operation of the activities
programs.
3. Notifies the Activity Director of needed equipment repairs.
4. Assists in the supervision of volunteers during activity programs and parties.
5. Verifies that activity programs are completed timely per the Activity Schedule.
6. Responsible to invite residents to activity programs as appropriate and as
determined in the Care Plan.
7. Maintains attendance records for resident activities on a daily basis.
8. Assists Activity Director with the seasonal décor of the Facility.
9. Assists in transporting residents to and from activities.
10. Maintains and delivers department timesheets to the Activity Director.
11. Maintains an up-to-date list of residents’ birth dates.
12. Performs light housekeeping tasks, such as clean-up following parties and
programs.
13. Maintains a clean office and desk.
14. Interacts with residents, family members, co-workers, clinical and ancillary staff
in a non-judgmental, supportive, and calm manner.
15. Addresses family satisfaction issues timely and assists in resolving the matter in a
professional manner.
16. Promptly reports issues or problems to Activity Director.
17. Participates as assigned in the orientation of new staff and demonstrates a
positive, helpful, and enthusiastic attitude.
18. Performs varied clerical and department maintenance functions.

5. Supports and participates in common teamwork:

c. Follows up as appropriate with supervisor, co-workers or residents
regarding reported complaints, problems and concerns.
d. Promotes positive public relations with residents, family members and
guests.
e. Completes requirements for in-service training, acceptable attendance,
uniform and dress codes including personal hygiene, and other work
duties as assigned.
f. Participates as assigned in the orientation of new staff and demonstrates a
positive, helpful, and enthusiastic attitude.
6. Immediately reports incidents of alleged resident abuse or neglect or alleged
violations of residents’ rights to Supervisor or Executive Director.
7. Maintains current practice standards or changes by participating in educational
opportunities provided by the Facility and outside resources.
Other Duties
Perform tasks which are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job, but
which may be altered or redesigned depending upon individual circumstances. Performs
other work duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education/Training: Must possess a high school diploma and a valid driver’s license.
A.D.A ((Americans with Disabilities Act)(as amended)) REQUIREMENTS: Must be
able to bend, stoop, push, pull, and walk and stand for most of the working day. Requires
manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as fax, telephone,
etc. Requires normal range of hearing and vision. Must be free from communicable
diseases that pose a "direct threat" to the health or safety of others and which cannot be
eliminated by a reasonable accommodation. Must be able to lift a minimum of 30
pounds, and be able to carry and transport supplies. Must be able to pass a post-offer, preemployment
physical health examination as a condition of employment. Must be capable
of performing the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable
accommodation(s).
Skill(s): Must possess proficient reading, writing, grammar, and mathematics skills;
proficient interpersonal relations and communication skills; decision-making skills, basic
computer skills; and be able to operate various medical and/or office equipment. Must
demonstrate knowledge of safety techniques. Must be able to communicate in English,
both verbally and in writing, and possess sufficient communication skills to perform the
tasks required.
Experience: A minimum of three months' prior nursing assistant experience in long-term
care preferred.
