What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lab Facilities Manager position at Cleveland State University?
Manages shared instrumentation within the Center for Gene Regulation in Health and Disease (GRHD), overseeing the operation, maintenance, and quality control of advanced research equipment e.g., fluorescence-based microscopes, flow cytometers, imaging scanners, PCR systems, and spectrofluorometers. Trains members of a diverse research community on proper use of these instruments and their associated analysis software, while collaborating with research teams to support their work. Troubleshoots technical issues and interfaces with manufacturers and users to ensure optimal functionality. Provides administrative support to the GRHD director, including scheduling, disseminating information, and coordinating visitor and seminar logistics. Performs other functionally related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferably in a science field such as biology, chemistry, or related field.
- Five (5) years of experience working with confocal microscopes and flow cytometers.
Preferred Qualifications
- Terminal degree in biology or chemistry.
- Experience with Typhoon imaging scanners and high-speed and low speed centrifuges.
- Experience with laboratory management and administrative assistant responsibilities.
- Experience in maintaining websites and using complex software package aimed at analyzing experimental data

- Experience with complex instrumentation.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, “Customer Focus” attitude, and ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
- Ability to troubleshoot, identify, analyze, and resolve complex issues.

- Experience and ability to understand the intricacies of complex instrumentation in order to interface with manufacturer and users and troubleshoot applications and problems. The person in this position must be service-minded and highly organized, with the ability to work and communicate effectively with researchers from a wide variety of scientific and cultural backgrounds. Strong interpersonal communication skills. Detail oriented and capable of managing large amounts of data, maintaining detailed comprehensive records, analyze and organize information, have effective project, time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel (advanced knowledge), Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams.
