Job Summary :
Wings Over the Rockies is seeking a dynamic and energetic individual who can “jump in” to lead and support our exhibit and flying operations at the Exploration of Flight facility at Centennial Airport. The Executive Director of EOF reports to the CEO of Wings Over the Rockies and is instrumental in establishing and overseeing all EOF business operations, staff and volunteer management, facility guidelines and culture, day-to-day visitor services, welcome desk, retail store operations and all flight operations including the Young Eagles, the Teacher Flight and revenue flight programs. In addition, this position is a member of the museum’s executive leadership team and is responsible for helping to define and implement overall museum strategy, culture and direction. This position is responsible for implementing a strategic operations plan that helps drive sales revenue from admissions, memberships, retail sales activities, special programs, weekend showcase events and flight operations.
Working Conditions :
The normal work hours for Wings are 8 : 00 AM to 5 : 00 PM Monday through Friday. However, the nature and duties of this position will require a nonstandard work schedule that will routinely include Saturday and / or Sunday. Hours in addition to normal work hours may be required. Holiday hours may be required. Occasional out-of-town travel may be required. The EOF facility is a hangar type building on Centennial Airport. Must be able to work in an outdoor weather environment in all seasons and weather, including heat / humidity, cold temperatures, and / or wet conditions.
Areas of Responsibility :
- Business Management :
Supervise cash handling procedures and daily reconciliation of Associate banks and deposits.
Monitor procedures and use of POS transactions.
Utilize and maintain operational reports (sales, inventory, and traffic etc.)
Accurately process retail sales, exchanges, returns, admissions, memberships, and gift certificates in a timely fashion.
Provide EOF retail store management oversight including sales and inventory management and merchandising.
Assist in coordinating physical inventory count once a year in accordance with yearly audit requirements.
Supervise a manager of flight operations, 2-3 front desk employees and numerous rotating volunteers.
Supervise the opening and closing of the front line, shop, and welcome desk.
Hire, train, coach, inform, and maintain scheduling for all EOF staff members.
Manage and supervise operation of simulators when needed.
Occasionally give a tour of the museum to groups when short staffed or a docent isn’t available to give a tour.
Continuously manage, develop, refine and operate the Teacher Flight Program.
Development and coordination of both Young Eagle Rallies as well as one-off flights.
Create and maintain spreadsheets / database / records for monitoring and reporting on programs.
Ensure timely entry of all program related data into museum database (Altru).
Support Grant Application and Reporting Process and reporting to grantor.
Develop and manage all Weekend Showcase events.
Collaborate with education / marketing / development / events departments to serve as a lead on outreach opportunities.
Actively solicit and promote programs including in-person interactions, follow-up on inquiries and onboarding into appropriate programs. Develop and build relationships / partnerships.
Represent Wings at third-party outreach opportunities and work with leadership teams to determine promotional opportunities and priorities.
Manage flight logistics such as aircraft movement and general maintenance needs. Work with Chief Pilot to ensure follow-through of all scheduled aircraft maintenance.
Ensure all insurance, pilot forms and other required paperwork properly maintained including all flight logs and aircraft maintenance logs.
Maintain all training manuals, safety manuals and general operations manuals.
Schedule and maintain minutes of all safety meetings.
Manage pilot / volunteer scheduling.
Oversee all day-to-day activities and program operations.
Develop strong relationships with other airport tenants, the Airport Authority and other aviation-based organizations.
Create and maintain spreadsheets for monitoring and reporting of flight operations.
Help prepare annual EOF budget and track and approve budget spending within program parameters.
Requirements / Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree or higher.
Strong leadership skills with at least 10 years of management experience.
Previous experience as an operations executive preferred.
Demonstrated ability to successfully promote and develop strong community relations.
Self-motivated, energetic, outcome-oriented individual with strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to take initiative and work creatively.
Excellent communication skills—both orally and in writing.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Ability to deal professionally and sensitively with a diverse audience and a wide range of contacts at different levels.
Ability to handle several projects and prioritize work.
Strong computer skills and willingness to learn new programs including POS systems.
Commitment to social inclusion and making the Museum accessible to a wide-ranging audience.
Experience with the operations of an aircraft. Licensed pilot preferred.
An understanding of airport procedures and flight operations highly desirable.
Phenomenal customer service demeanor with excellent interpersonal skills.
