The VP of Artificial Intelligence is a newly created position, operating within the CDO organization and working across the Enterprise to envision, design and deliver AI applications that will make processes faster, more efficient and less costly and the engagement with clients and internal audiences, intelligent and effective. You will translate advanced analytics, behavioral insights, data science and optimization skills into end-user AI services and applications that improve operational process and optimize customer service and outcomes.

You will lead the department of AI, teams of specialists in the design, development, deployment, and management of results-oriented short-term and long-term activities in the area of AI, including NLP, NLG and CV using cloud. You will be responsible for the integrity and ethical use of all work from the team, for establishing efficient and scalable approaches for delivering product solutions as well as for team results, solution adoption and budgetary planning and ensuring objectives have been fully met.

This work will initially focus on key initiatives within CVS' Modernization agenda, including support for the Intelligent Agent program, claims process automation, smart enablement of our Interoperability and Clinical data products and further controls and automation of our underwriting engine, with responsibility for delivering AI solutions that either save cost, reduce our claims benefit line, or drive revenue directly or through customer experience. The solutions you oversee will have a direct link to our financial results and customer satisfaction metrics.

  • Spearhead new innovative solutions or enhancements to existing products by applying AI technologies
  • Work with executive leaders across business units and teams to find opportunities to use AI to drive measurable business value across the customer and provider experience and / or to reduce operational complexity through automation with AI
  • Act as the key liaison for strategy and execution of AI priorities across the business
  • Build our AI ecosystem including with AI-collaborators and advisors. Contribute in identifying potential technologies and vendors
  • Responsible for defining the needed infrastructure in terms of data, systems, tools, required for a successful implementation of AI solutions aligned to our overall strategy and work with the Data Engineering, TAI and IT teams to deliver these
  • Acquire and develop strong AI-specialized talent, including AI data scientists and architects
  • Build thought leadership for the organization in the AI space and project outside CVS
  • Develop and manage the short and long-term vision and portfolio and development initiatives for the AI team
  • Responsible for the integrity of all work from the AI group
  • Responsible for growing the AI function and integral teams by hiring the best talent available on the market
  • Partner with business leaders to understand direction and needs and be the person that they look to for AI and more generally cloud-based analytic solutions
  • Collaborate with business unit leaders to develop and take-to-market AI-powered solutions that solve major client problems
  • Work with other departments, Data Engineering, CTO, CIO, to manage the integration of successful algorithms in complex, real-time production systems at a large scale
  • Champion new thinking and creativity in team members. Mentor others on how to effectively develop, communicate, and implement new solutions
  • Awareness of technology roadmap and competitor products and development direction to help direct designs to surpass the competition

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated strategic business leadership, identifying, quantifying, and pursuing new opportunities
  • Masters in Computer Engineering / Computer Science or related discipline, with significant industry experience, 15 years, of which 7 years leading large, diverse teams in delivering products using state-of-the-art ML / AI systems
  • High emotional intelligence and an outstanding ability to collaborate and partner with other business teams and executives
  • Experience leading major strategic, cross-functional initiatives within large organizations
  • Demonstrated proven experience in business development and sales including client relationship management and involvement in large deal pursuits
  • Worked with several technologies related to machine learning, including cloud computing, data analytics and security / threat intelligence. Understanding of NLP is a must
  • Direct understanding of the machine learning landscape, including experience delivering capabilities that leverage deep learning technologies
  • Established success with implementing emerging technologies into solutions that are delivered to customers
  • An internally recognized leader who exercises judgement in selecting methods, technologies and evaluation criteria for obtaining results
  • Strong leadership presence and communication skills : capable of influencing and driving collaboration at all levels within the organization
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Work with executive and technical stakeholders to develop and refine AI product concepts, business case development, budgeting, project execution, and end user adoption
  • Ability to lead through ambiguity and complexity to take calculated risks to solve problems, forge new paths for growth, and achieve challenging goals
  • Education

    Masters in Computer Engineering / Computer Science or related discipline, with significant industry experience
