About The Role
The Education, Licensing, and Step Up to Quality (SUTQ) Specialist is responsible for supporting Clever Bee Academy’s Cleveland and Akron regions in meeting Ohio’s licensing requirements and achieving quality standards within the Step Up to Quality (SUTQ) rating system. This role provides guidance, training, and technical assistance to Clever Bee Academy centers, directors, and teaching staff, ensuring compliance with Ohio Department of Children and Youth (DCY) regulations for both licensing and SUTQ. The specialist also collaborates with stakeholders to enhance program quality and increase access to high-quality early learning experiences.

About The Role

The specialist also collaborates with stakeholders to enhance program quality and increase access to high-quality early learning experiences.
Key Responsibilities
Licensing Compliance and Support:
- Assist Clever Bee Academy Cleveland and Akron center administrators and staff in understanding and maintaining compliance with DCY licensing requirements.
- Conduct site visits and assessments to ensure adherence to state licensing requirements.
- Guide programs through the licensing application and renewal processes.
- Provide ongoing support to address compliance issues and corrective action plans.
- Educate Clever Bee Academy Cleveland and Akron center administrators and staff about SUTQ requirements and the benefits of quality improvement.
- Assist centers with the SUTQ application, renewal, and rating process.
- Offer coaching and technical assistance to help programs meet SUTQ standards, including curriculum development, staff qualifications, and assessment implementation.
- Provide training on Ohio's Early Learning and Development Standards (ELDS) and best practices for quality improvement.

- Develop and facilitate trainings, workshops, and resources for center staff on licensing, SUTQ, and early childhood education best practices to meet the needs of each individual center and team’s needs.
- Support center staff in meeting professional development requirements and credentialing goals.
- Work with Lead Teachers on curriculum implementation and showcasing evidence of learning.
- Guide centers in implementing evidence-based curricula, assessments, and teaching strategies.
- Support centers in obtaining and maintaining SUTQ Gold Ratings beginning July 2025.
- Assist administration in completion and maintenance of SUTQ Gold Rating paperwork.
- Audit portfolios for each center and guide classroom teachers in corrective actions and implementation moving forward.
- Associate’s degree (bachelor’s preferred) in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Social Work, or a related field.
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in early childhood education with Center Director experience preferred, childcare licensing, or program quality improvement.
- Experience working with DCY licensing regulations and SUTQ rating system a must.
- Strong knowledge of Ohio’s Early Learning and Development Standards (ELDS) and early childhood best practices.
- Familiarity with childcare licensing rules, SUTQ rating criteria, curriculum implementation, and quality classroom environments.
- Excellent training, coaching, and facilitation skills.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
- Ability to build relationships with center administration and staff, educators, and community stakeholders.
- Proficient in lesson planning, curriculum implementation and individualizing, and showcasing evidence of learning.
- Strong ability to model ECE best practices in the classroom (teaching lessons, portfolio completion, anecdotal notes, classroom environment, behavior management) in a hands-on way.
- Proficiency in OCLQS and OCCRRA and other data management systems related to licensing and quality improvement.
- Ability to travel between centers in the Cleveland and Akron markets, training sites, and community meetings.
- Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
- Ability to meet the needs of Clever Bee Academy by stepping into centers to cover for center administration in their absence.
- Must pass a background check as required by DCY regulations.
