Overview:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Childcare Director to lead and oversee the daily operations of our childcare center in New York State. The ideal candidate will possess active teacher certification in Early Childhood Education or Childhood Education, along with demonstrated expertise in early childhood development, staff leadership, and program management.
The Childcare Director will ensure compliance with all NYS Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) regulations and provide a nurturing, educational environment for children, staff, and families.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Management:
- Develop, implement, and oversee age-appropriate, play-based, and educational programs aligned with the center’s mission and New York State standards.
- Ensure curriculum meets the developmental needs of children and prepares them for future educational success.
- Compliance and Licensing:
- Maintain full compliance with New York State OCFS licensing standards, including safety, health, and documentation requirements.
- Prepare for and participate in inspections, maintaining high-quality standards.
- Staff Leadership and Development:
- Recruit, train, and supervise teaching and support staff.
- Foster a collaborative and professional environment, providing ongoing coaching, performance evaluations, and professional development opportunities.
- Ensure staff qualifications align with state requirements, including maintaining active teacher certifications.
- Child and Family Engagement:
- Build strong relationships with families, providing clear communication and ensuring their needs are met.
- Address and resolve any concerns promptly and professionally.
- Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for children and families from diverse backgrounds.
- Operational Oversight:
- Manage daily operations, including enrollment, scheduling, budgeting, and facility maintenance.
- Monitor classroom ratios to ensure compliance with state regulations and provide appropriate staffing levels.
- Oversee procurement of supplies and materials, maintaining a budget-conscious approach.
- Advocacy and Community Relations:
- Serve as an advocate for early childhood education within the community.
- Partner with local organizations, schools, and agencies to enhance the quality of care and resources available to children and families.
Qualifications:
- Active New York State teacher certification in Early Childhood Education or Childhood Education.
- Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Early Childhood Education, Childhood Education, or a related field.
- A minimum of 2-5 years of experience in a leadership role within an early childhood setting.
- Comprehensive knowledge of NYS OCFS childcare regulations and licensing requirements.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- CPR and First Aid certifications (or willingness to obtain).
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with diverse populations and commitment to cultural competence.
- Familiarity with play-based and STEAM-focused curriculum models.
- Proficiency in using childcare management software and technology.
Compensation:
Competitive salary and benefits package, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Pay: $55,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
