Assistant Teacher - Preschool
General Overview of Company and Position:
The mission of the Cobleskill Campus Child Care Center is to provide the highest quality child care possible. Our team of teachers are very passionate about fulfilling this mission. We are looking for someone who is equally passionate and enthusiastic to join our team. The Cobleskill Campus Child Care Center program is based on the philosophy that each child is a unique human being with his or her own personality, strengths, interests, and learning styles. Our curriculum and teaching approach is based on the National Association for the Education of Young Children’s (NAEYC) publication on Developmentally Appropriate Practice as well as the Reggio Emilia Approach.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform duties in a professional manner; meet high expectations of a model program.
- Understand and abide by the Center’s philosophy of working with young children and their families.
- Work as a member of a team endeavoring to serve the Center as a whole. Must be able to take direction from Lead Teachers and Director.
- Be highly flexible in working with different age groups.
- Attend meetings or functions beyond regular work hours as coordinated with the Director.
- Pursue professional development activities and follow the NEAYC Code of Ethics.
- Foster and build upon children’s curiosity by planning and implementing an innovative curriculum that is both recreational and educational.
- Maintain a safe, healthy, and developmentally appropriate learning environment.
- Build positive self-concept and individual strength in children and facilitate such growth in students.
- Maintain discipline in a positive manner reflecting on child’s behavior and not on the child him/herself.
- Provide a pleasant home-style atmosphere at mealtimes including eating with the children.
- Have a general understanding of Preschool development and their abilities.
- Must be comfortable working with children ages 3 -5 years.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a CDA or an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood, Child Development or related field ** Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Minimum of one years’ experience related to caring for children is preferred
