QUALIFICATIONS:
-Master's Degree and Experience as a Special Education Teacher and/or Administrator of Special Education
-Knowledge of Special Education Regulations—Federal and State
-Knowledge of Special Education “Best Practices”
-Strong Interpersonal Skills—able to work with other administrators, teachers, parents, and students
-Strong Oral and Written Skills
-Strong Organizational Ability
-MA Certification as an Administrator of Special Education
REPORTS TO:
-Superintendent of Schools
JOB GOAL:
-To provide leadership in the ongoing development and implementation of student and staff services.
-To provide communication between administration, staff, parents, the DOE, and other state agencies.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Keeps abreast of successful Special Education practices and provides leadership in determining their appropriateness for inclusion in the district’s educational programs
-Maintains regulatory compliance for Federal and State Special Education Regulations
-Prepares all Federal and State DOE Reports, including Circuit Breaker, correctly and on time
-Develops the budget and provides expenditure control on the Special Education budget
-Prepares statistical reports as mandated by the Superintendent in a timely fashion
-Prepares and manages all Special Education Grants
-Assists in the formulation of a philosophy and objectives for Special Education Programs and guides the implementation and evaluation of those services
-Investigation and follow-up of appropriate out-of-district programs
-Serve as liaison to outside agencies providing support services to students (e.g., DSS, DMH, DMR, etc.)
-Works with the Principals and other administrative staff to improve individual staff competencies
-Foster a trusting relationship with parents of Special Education students
-Prepare and arrange transportation for students in the Special Education Program requiring same
-Maintain active participation with educational leaders in the area of Special Education
-Be an active participant on the Keystone Advisory Board
-Attend and participate in all Administrative Team Meetings as required
-Attend School Committee meetings and prepare such reports for the Committee as the Superintendent may request
-Assist the Superintendent and other administrators as requested/needed
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
-Twelve-month contract
