Director - Expressive Therapy

Responsibilities JOB SUMMARY : Provides overall supervision to the Expressive Therapy Department and provides services to patients in one or more programs of the hospital within the therapeutic milieu. Interviews prospective department employees and provides initial and ongoing departmental training. Manages Expressive Therapy schedule and ensures coverage. Works as a member of a multidisciplinary team in planning, implementing and evaluating individualized treatment plans. All Expressive Therapists also provide direct patient care. Responsibilities include the provision of a safe and therapeutic milieu and crisis intervention.Qualifications JOB SPECIFICATIONS : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate competency in the criteria listed in this job description. The specifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability to meet the minimum requirements for this position. Staff must demonstrate flexibility for reassignment to units providing care to varied populations including children, adolescents, pre-adolescents, and adults.Education : Bachelors Degree in any form of Recreational Therapy or related field required; Master’s Degree in any form of Recreational Therapy or related field strongly preferred.Experience : 5 years experience working with a psychiatric mental health population, preferably in an inpatient setting. 1-3 years supervisory experience preferred.Licensure / Certification : Expressive / Recreation Therapy Certification (or is certification eligible) by the professional organization in the area(s) of expertise preferred.Knowledge : Prefer knowledge of case management, discharge planning, group leadership skills, age-specific growth and development, crisis and behavior management, family therapy theory and practice. Knowledge of theory and practice of psychosocial assessments. Able to work cooperatively with other hospital staff and involved community agencies.
