    SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT

    Under general direction of the building administrator and with direction from the Accelerated Schools Coach, assists the families of students in accessing community services. Develops a program for increasing family involvement in school activities and assists staff in meeting the needs of all students.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develops and coordinates the Parent Center; maintains budget, supplies, equipment and schedules; publishes parent bulletin; coordinates activities and communicates with staff, specialists, administrators and parents.
  • Implements family outreach program; develops an effective system for communicating with parents, i.e., telephone contacts, making parents feel welcome at the school and / or home visits.
  • Plans and organizes ongoing training to assist parental involvement in children's school life.
  • Uses surveys and other means to determine how parents and staff can best serve children.
  • Facilitates parent / family networks.
  • Serves as liaison between families and community social service agencies.
  • Supports PTSA in efforts of fund raising, food drives, clothing bank, etc.
  • Serves on family assistance team or cadre and other committees as required. Consults and works with Student Assistance Team. Collaborates with school discipline committee, counselor and staff.
  • Develops written guidelines to define roles of various members of the educational community to maintain open channels of communication.
  • Maintains program data and statistics; provides reports as requested; maintains a file on the languages spoken by each family and volunteer translators that will assist with family-school communication.
  • Provides clerical support for training programs and information packets.
  • Assists teachers with planning and implementing accelerated learning activities for students in the areas of language arts, reading and math.
  • Assists teachers or prepares learning materials as requested. Assists teachers in the evaluation and assessment of students.
  • May supervise students in playground activities.
  • Performs other essential functions as assigned.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    E ducation and Experience

    High school diploma or it's recognized equivalent (GED) and; two years of study at an institution of higher education (72 quarter hours); widows : 1">

    an associate's degree (or higher); widows : 1">

    a passing score on a state or local assessment.

    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to identify family strengths and plan / advocate around family goals.
  • Ability to plan, organize, schedule, and maintain program records.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and relate to students, families, community members from diverse backgrounds, and staff.
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate with social service agencies.
  • Interest and ability to advocate with and on behalf of low-income diverse families.
  • Ability to use computer for use in the classroom and to maintain program records.
  • Basic telephone and clerical skills.
  • Certification and Licenses

  • First Aid and CPR card.
  • Completion of fingerprinting and background check.
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License and access to personal vehicle with required insurance coverage.
  • Type 2 Driver's License for the transportation of students.
  • Desirable Qualification

  • Associates Degree in Social Service or related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience in human services field.
  • Bilingual
  • Training or experience in counseling.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS

    Work is performed in various school buildings located throughout the District. Employee may be required to attend evening meetings and work a flexible schedule. May have to negotiate steps, ramps, uneven surfaces, and going outdoors in all types of weather to reach some classrooms, other buildings, or homes of families. May be required to provide transportation for parents and children.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    Employment with Clover Park School District is conditional pending completion of a Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprint background check as required by RCW28A.400.303. (NOTE : All associated background check fees are the employee's responsibility.) The fingerprint scan must be completed prior to the first day of employment.

    Employees who are anticipated to work 630 hours during the school year (September 1 through August 31) are eligible for medical, dental, vision, long term disability, and basic life insurance benefits. Clover Park School District benefits are administered by the Washington State Healthcare Authority under the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB).     RETIREMENT AND DEFERRED COMPENSATION

    Eligible employees are required to be a member of the Washington State Department of Retirement System Plan. For eligibility information, check on the link to the Department of Retirement Systems' website.

    Employees also have the ability to participate in tax deferred 403(b) and 457 Deferred Compensation Plan (DCP). These are supplemental retirement savings programs that allows you control over the amount of pretax salary dollars you defer as well as the flexibility to choose between multiple investment options.
