      SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT

      This position conducts speech / language therapy activities with students under the direction of a certified speech / language pathologist and travels between assigned elementary or secondary schools as necessary.

      Ill. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

      Conducts therapy programs and activities for students, singly or in small groups that will assist the student in meeting objectives as directed by the speech / language pathologist.

      Provides therapy support in classroom as appropriate.

      Communicates and relays information regarding students to the appropriate staff.

      Travels between schools for therapy sessions; schedules time for direct therapy; plans travel times; checks in with building staff.

      Assists with preparation for and implementation of programs for students; assembles materials needed for programs; prepares and updates schedules.

      Prepares speech / language therapy files; files district forms; completes paperwork under direction of the speech / language pathologist.

      Contacts teachers, assistants, principals and others for consultation under the direction of the speech language pathologist.

      Contacts parents as needed under the direction of the speech / language pathologist.

      Records progress and attendance of students; updates plans.

      Attends departmental, building, and IEP meetings.

      Serves as a team member in designated regular education / special education classrooms.

      Constructs materials for students; modifies materials as necessary and as directed by the speech / language pathologist.

      Ensures personal hygiene needs of students are attended to by assigned staff; occasionally required to lift and carry students.

      Performs related duties as assigned.

      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

      Education and Experience

      Associate's degree with an emphasis in Speech-Language Pathology Assistance, or a BS or BA in speech / language pathology with experience as a speech-language pathology assistant required.

      Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

      Knowledge of developmental milestones and general children's development.

      Experience in working with students with communication, learning, behavioral and / or physical handicaps required.

      Demonstrated knowledge of grammar and English usage.

      Ability to articulate clearly.

      Effective written and oral communication skills.

      Ability to establish a positive rapport with students.

      Ability to maintain program records and organize materials.

      Ability to maintain confidentiality.

      Ability to follow directions.

      Ability to schedule activities and attend to detail

      Ability to be creative, resourceful and flexible.

      Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.

      Ability to follow procedures established by state laws.

      Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and parents.

      Certification and Licenses

      Washington Speech-Language Pathology Assistant certification

      Desirable Qualification

      Experience working with speech preferred. Work experience with preschool, elementary and secondary special needs students preferred.

      WORKING CONDITIONS

      Work is performed in both a typical school setting and satellite sites. During the normal work day employee may be required to travel to multiple sites throughout the district in all types of weather and maneuver traffic, steps, ramps, and uneven ground. Must have normal use of fingers, hands, and arms; ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time; and tolerance of occasional loud noises.

    • CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

      Employment with Clover Park School District is conditional pending completion of a Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprint background check as required by RCW28A.400.303. (NOTE : All associated background check fees are the employee's responsibility.) The fingerprint scan must be completed prior to the first day of employment.

      Employees who are anticipated to work 630 hours during the school year (September 1 through August 31) are eligible for medical, dental, vision, long term disability, and basic life insurance benefits.       RETIREMENT AND DEFERRED COMPENSATION
