Summer Helper-Hydro Plant

Status: Seasonal/Temporary, Hourly, Non-exempt


1. POSITION FUNCTION/OBJECTIVE:
This position is for high school graduates or college students enrolled in a college, university, or trade school program in the fall of 2025. Performs diverse range of traditional building maintenance tasks across Cloverland Electric Cooperative properties. Will be required to work outdoors at times operating a riding lawn mower and gas-powered weed whip and will assist inside the Hydro Plant facility with basic cleaning duties, such as sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping floors.

This position is slated to begin June 2, 2025 and end August 14, 2025.

2. ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
a) Responsible to see that tools and equipment utilized are sufficient to complete assigned work. Accounts for all material, equipment, and tools utilized for project completion.
b) Report to supervisor or foreman any abnormal conditions that develop during the process of work.
c) Promote and follow safety consciousness and compliance. Observes all traffic rules and regulations while operating company vehicles.
d) Complete an employee timesheet on a weekly basis and submit to the supervisor for approval.
e) As requested, will assist other employees within the Generation Division with tasks or projects.
f) Will be required to operate both a riding and push lawn mower, as well as a gas-powered weed whip.
g) As directed will be assigned to painting, sweeping, vacuuming, or mopping projects on various Cloverland properties.
h) As directed will attend trainings and seminars to increase job knowledge. Will commit to utilizing proper personal protective equipment to ensure safety on the job at all times.
i) Performs other related duties and assumes other responsibilities as requested or directed.

3. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
a) At times work performed outside may expose a person to adverse weather conditions, at times they may become inclement, temperature may range from subzero to high heat and humidity. Must be available for work during adverse weather conditions.
b) Good physical condition and dexterity is required. Lifting and moving 50 pounds or more is occasionally required. Medium work requiring exertion of up to 50-75 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds of force more frequently. Lifting and carrying 10-50 pounds occasionally.
c) Position requires the individual to be capable of stooping, bending, reaching (overhead), climbing, grasping, pushing, pulling, and having the ability to walk long distances, or work in awkward positions and enclosed spaces. The position requires walking in all types of terrain, sitting, standing, and driving/riding in vehicle.
d) Good hand to eye coordination is necessary. Must be capable of utilizing handheld and manually operated tools that coincide with the duties of the position.
e) Must be able to communicate clearly and accurately and possess good hearing as needed for work and safety compliance in the work environment.

f) Motor vehicles, computers, small handheld or mobile electrical instruments and devices, customary office and business communications equipment are utilized in this position. The individual should be familiar with and capable of operating equipment utilized in the construction operation.
g) Hazards include working at heights, electrical, and radiant energy.

4. ACCOUNTABILITIES:
a) Reports to the Hydro Plant Manager, is also required to report to the Foreman when working in the field on a project, keeping them informed concerning work in progress, completions, and consulting concerning efficient completion of the duties and responsibilities of the position.
b) Accountable to supervisor and the management of the Cooperative for the efficient performance of these duties.
c) Encouraged to use initiative and judgment in making decisions, remembering that the Cooperative's best interest can be affected by their actions. Should feel free to make suggestions for the improvement of operations and efficiency.


5. POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:
This position is non-exempt under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Non-exempt employees are paid on an hourly basis.


6. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
a) High School diploma or equivalence certificate.
b) Must have a valid Michigan Driver's License.


7. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
a) Must demonstrate knowledge in the following: written and verbal communication, reading comprehension, judgement, decision making, time management, troubleshooting, operation and control, and equipment maintenance.

b) Demonstrate knowledge of material resources to ensure appropriate use of equipment, facilities, and materials needed to do certain work and completion of projects.

c) Must maintain first aid and CPR certification as required by the Cooperative.

8. PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

Personal characteristics to include: a team player, high integrity, good personal habits, regular work attendance, courteous and friendly, tact and persuasiveness, able to work well with diverse groups of people, and gain and maintain respect of others, both inside and outside the Cooperative.
