Sr. Analyst, Portfolio Operations - CME VenturesDescriptionCME Ventures is the global strategic investment arm of CME Group. We act as a bridge between CME’s core businesses and external partners to identify emerging market structure changes and invest in areas of opportunity. We do this by selectively partnering with, and investing in, early stage companies. Position OverviewThe Sr. Analyst of Portfolio Operations will get exposure to all facets of CME Ventures - both internally and externally. You will support a small, high throughput team that manages multiple initiatives, investments and shifting priorities. Additionally, you will be engaging directly with our portfolio companies - offering support where it is needed and owning financial tracking for our portfolio companies and internal reporting on the overall fund. You will also communicate with internal stakeholders at CME Group - including the CME Ventures Investment Committee, CME Group’s various business lines and divisions, and various teams within CME Group’s Finance division (i.e. Corporate Development & Strategy, Accounting).The primary goal of this position is to own portfolio operations and help the team standardize and scale its day-to-day processes. This includes organizing, tracking and synthesizing our company pipeline, pilots, and networking conversations with other investors - in addition to financial tracking and reporting. You will also contribute to the team’s industry research and landscape analysis and help the team share key insights from this analysis with internal stakeholders. Finally, in this role you will be able to control your own destiny and have an opportunity to broaden your remit within the team over time - including taking ownership of new, or existing, verticals of interest.ResponsibilitiesFinancial Tracking & Reporting- Maintain an organized and current financial view of the ventures investment portfolio (including budget tracking and fund P&L); communicate financials, KPIs, and key takeaways of individual portfolio companies to internal stakeholders.Pipeline Management - Source, vet and manage the process of tracking inbounds leveraging both internal and external networks. Track and synthesize meetings with investors to extract key trends and build market maps. Help the team capture intel and quickly identify opportunities with high strategic potential. Internal Communication - Prepare and present updates to internal stakeholders - including quarterly updates to CME’s Investment Committee, Accounting, and a broader group of internal stakeholders via a team newsletter. Additionally, oversee the team’s external marketing and social media efforts in coordination with internal teams.Internal Networking - Build a network and rapport with individuals across various business lines at CME Group to better understand each team’s priorities and where CME Ventures could provide support to these teams.Industry Research & Analysis - Take ownership and drive execution of new investment verticals, ideas and special projects. Create investment theses in coordination with internal teams’ hypotheses and strategies and present to stakeholders for feedback and buy-in.Pilot Oversight - Support our pilot program by systematizing the process, managing and internally reporting the progress of various pilots.Investment Due Diligence - Help standardize the team’s investment due diligence process and support the team during the due diligence process. This includes conducting financial analysis on individual companies and the deal, working closely with the team leads on operational due diligence, and other necessary workstreams. Provide support on other assigned transactions and strategic issues as may be required.Portfolio Support - Provide operational support and strategic expertise to portfolio companies across the entire investment lifecycle.Team Support - Assist and work jointly with team leaders to capture ideas into actionable documents, lead team meetings, and ensure communication and cohesiveness across the group. The Ideal CandidateDegree or equivalent in related fields required e.g. Business, Economics, MBA, CFA or equivalent a plus.3-5 years of financial market or investment experience .Working knowledge of capital markets, trading, and the business of CME Group.Supplemental certifications in financial modeling, analysis or relevant legal analysis.Demonstrable experience designing and executing analytical models and deriving insights from large volumes of data.A strong willed, motivated self - starter who is willing to step up and take ownership of new ideas and responsibilities and run with them while maintaining a high level of output. The salary range for this role is $113,600-$189,400. Actual salary offered will be dependent on a wide array of factors including but not limited to : relevant experience, skills, education and comparison to internal employees (where relevant).
