Position Summary and objective

The Human Development Coordinator is responsible for supporting the personal, professional, and educational growth and transition of our workforce development employees, participants, and alumni as they gain employment ready skills, achieve personal milestones, connect with resources, and education providers, and employers.

Essential Functions

· Regular attendance is an essential function for all employees. We depend on our employees to show up, begin work and end work at the time their schedule indicates and whenever scheduled to work, aside from extenuating circumstances.

· Legally and safely drive a vehicle to Coalfield work sites.

· Proactively build, maintain, and improve effective relationships with community partners, including:

  • Community-and-Technical College partners, Career & Technical Center programs, and other educational institutions in the region.
  • Employers and Employer-based networks
  • Social Support organizations

· Facilitate the educational and personal development programming for trainees and crew members.

· Use diagnostic skills, problem-solving, facilitation excellent communication skills to deeply engage with employees and facilitate their creation of SMAART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Aggressive, Relevant, Time-bound) Milestones that the OJT employee owns and executes (for example: Driver’s License Reinstatement within 3

  • months). Coaches will facilitate regular review meetings and co-develop clear action items with OJT employees. Milestones should be grounded in basic needs, education, successful employment, developing capacity to build wealth, and personal growth and accountability.

· Physically and remotely meet with OJT employees for:

o A portion of onboarding, including initial milestone setting via a facilitated conversation and strengths and needs Survey.

o Check-ins - 2-10 minutes, once a week, via text, call, or in-person

o Milestone Setting & Reviews - Up to 30 minutes, every 2 weeks, scheduled, in-person

o Working Sessions - no more than 2 a week, to work on professional development, preparing for transition, or discussing barriers or milestones. May be more at times. Working Sessions may involve transporting the employee to locations (DMV, DHHR, Bank, Etc.) and going through the process alongside them to model problem solving, diagnostic skills, and provide a sounding board and co-regulation.

o Coaching Sessions - to triage and coach through a specific issue, as needed.

· Proactively and intentionally model coaching, leadership, professionalism, mentoring, active listening, and problem solving when interacting with crew chiefs, coordinators, and other personnel within Coalfield.

· Manage information and communications professionally, accurately, and with a strong focus on confidentiality and timeliness. They must accurately track data on milestones and barriers for reporting purposes, and at times synthesize it into reports or communications to other teams. They will use online databases and information management software to document information on meetings with OJT employees and their needs and insights and share when appropriate.

· Must have a high level of personal integrity, accountability, and take personal responsibility for ensuring that the trainees and crew members they support are getting what they need to successfully complete their training, obtain skills and education, and secure and maintain employment.

· Implement tactical and tangible support to OJT employees where necessary, including but not limited to:

o In person meetings and working sessions in a range or work sites and settings, from farming sites to Construction zones.

o Transportation to partner agencies, employers, courthouses, hearings, the DMV, etc.

o Guidance and support in developing clear and effective budgets

o Help making difficult phone calls or starting multi-step processes (license fines, making an appointment to see a counselor, unresolved health issues, checking credit scores, getting on payment plans for debts, etc.)

o Assisting with the navigation of online applications for supports like legal aid, SNAP, Medicaid, and others.

o Listening to understand and help OJT employees gain clarity on their responses, attitudes, and concerns, and excitements about changes and challenges they are facing, and helping to think through barriers and how to overcome them (conflicts on a team or with family, balancing roles like mother or father with academic and professional pathways, challenges of living in transitional living/sober living housing, etc.)

o Helping to develop and attending third week activities and other personal development events

· Must effectively collaborate across teams to coordinate support for OJT employees, effectively and appropriately facilitating communication between teams inside the

  • organization, as well as partnerships outside of Coalfield. They will add depth and perspective about OJT employees’ goals and strengths to work closely and effectively with the Crew Chiefs and the rest of the Workforce Team to understand and support each employee.
  • Support trainees and crew members in the employment and education search process and transitioning past the Coalfield Development opportunity.
  • Navigate high-pressure and intense moments with Coalfield’s values of Gumption, Grit, and Grace. They must be able to maintain an objective and focused approach to supporting individuals as they navigate their own growth and change.
  • Teach and facilitate job preparation and job search skills.
  • Transport Trainees and Crew Members: to vendors to purchase identified supplies; to job fairs; to mock interviews, etc.
  • Input data in the learning management system and case management system.
  • Maintains knowledge of new methods and techniques for training, and training requirements applicable to the organization and/or industry.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, participating in professional organizations, attending partnership meetings and networking opportunities.
  • Support training participants in Coalfield’s shorter-term trainings when called upon with the same excellence, adaptability, and grit.

Supervisory responsibilities

  • None, this is a coordinating position.

Work Location and Hours of Work

  • Office in Mingo County.
  • This position will meet with employees and partners throughout Logan, Boone, & Mingo Counties and other counties as assigned.
  • Coalfield Development operates on a Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM schedule. This position will work that schedule.
  • Given the nature of this role - attendance at events may require work after normal hours.
  • Coalfield allows exempt employees to request & use flextime.

Environment Conditions, Physical Activity, Physical Demands

· Occasionally when visiting project sites: Low temperatures. High temperatures. Outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind. Noisy environments.

· Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.

· Driving

· Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.

· Light work that includes moving objects up to 25 pounds

Travel and Transportation Requirements

· Must have a valid driver’s license to travel often to 21 county service regions.

· Candidates must provide reliable transportation to their primary work location. Coalfield has a limited fleet of vehicles and frequently carpools to minimize travel burdens on OJT employees. Travel expenses (excluding commutes) may be reimbursed per Coalfield’s policies and procedures.

Required Experience and Education

· Associate degree in a relevant field

· Professional or personal experience working with individuals with the goal of unlocking their full potential, power and purpose.

Preferred Experience and Education

· Bachelor degree in a related field

· Two years of experience in relevant fields that provide context and familiarity with employer needs, and facilitating personal, educational and professional growth and integrity that can lead to educational and employment opportunities.
