What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sweeping Truck Operator position at Coast Paving?
Job Summary:
The Sweeper Operator is responsible for safely operating a heavy-duty sweeper truck as well as handheld equipment to perform assigned duties of cleaning private streets, parking lots, and/or other locations. This position is responsible for thoroughly and efficiently servicing the clients’ needs while complying with Company policies.

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Operate equipment safely and efficiently to cleans streets, lots and other locations of trash, leaves, and other debris.
- Must be able to work independently, under a supervisor’s instruction.
- Understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Ensures supplies, materials and equipment are secured prior to operating sweeper.
- Performs pre- and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicle. (DVIR)
- May operate a variety of hand and power tools as well as other equipment needed to complete jobs within specifications, including a backpack blower.
- Walking around using a backpack blower during a large percentage of a work shift.
- Notifies Route Supervisor of any incidents/accidents/injures/property damage.
- Completes job tickets with detailed information and turns in as required.
- Additional tasks of other positions and duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
- This position requires the following motions: stretching, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, twisting, throwing, walking, standing, reaching, and squatting.
- Physical ability to operate equipment under temperature extremes, for extended hours of time.
- Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions.
- May be exposed to vehicular traffic.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
Additional Requirements:
- Attendance is required according to company attendance policy to ensure the crew is able to operate at normal efficiency level.
- Participates and cooperates in all Company scheduled training, briefings, and meetings.
- Provides a positive professional attitude when dealing with co-workers, customers, and the public.
- Ability to be flexible with last minute schedule changes, location changes, time of shift changes. Overtime work may be required.
- Abide by Occupational and Safety Health Act (OSHA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements as well as local, municipal, state, and federal laws.
- Applicants applying for driving positions must be a minimum of 25 years of age to meet insurance underwriting requirements for insurability.
Preferred Background:
- Specific job-related experience preferred, however not required.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, and reliable transportation.
- Must be insurable under Coast’s vehicle insurance policy.
- Spanish proficiency a plus but NOT a requirement.
Preplacement Requirements
All Potential Candidates must be willing to submit to the company required background check(s) as applicable and preplacement drug analysis to be considered for hire.
