Job Description:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs close of day timely, accurately, and thoroughly by auditing claims for billing accuracy and updating charges.
- Verify billing in electronic health record for accuracy. Contact appropriate staff to correct as needed.
- Identifies and holds claims with unspecified charges and files when corrected.
- Completes void and bad debt reversal requests as needed.
- Assists team and other staff members with questions and/or problems regarding the processing of claims, error corrections, and the close of day.
- Trains as necessary for the clinical staff to properly enter charges to reduce errors so claims are paid properly.
- Trains new staff as needed.
- Attends meetings.
- Able to multitask.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school diploma
Experience: Two to three (2-3) years of experience, preferably in a health care organization. Working knowledge of medical terminology.
KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Knowledge of medical billing/collection practices.
- Knowledge of basic medical coding and third-party operating procedures and practices.
- Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation to type correspondence.
SKILLS:
- Skill in using computer programs and applications.
- Skill in using a calculator.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public.
