Communications Officer - 911 Dispatcher Emergency Services

About the Role: As a Communications Officer, you'll be the vital link between emergency responders and people in need. Working from our 911 dispatch center, you'll handle emergency and non-emergency calls while coordinating with Law Enforcement, Fire Rescue, and Emergency Services personnel.
What You'll Do:
- Receive and dispatch 911 calls, providing critical emergency medical instructions when needed
- Coordinate emergency responses across multiple agencies
- Monitor and relay weather alerts to emergency responders
- Manage multiple computer systems and databases, including NCIC
- Maintain accurate dispatch records and verify crucial information
- Provide support to field officers through license plate and background checks
Must-Have Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- Legal authorization to work in the USA
- Ability to pass background check and drug screening
- Type at least 45 WPM
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Willingness to complete required certifications and training
Preferred Experience:
- 2-3 years of 911 dispatch experience ideal
- Bilingual capabilities ideal, but not required (English/Spanish)
- Knowledge of public safety software and radio systems
- Familiarity with Jasper County geography
- Understanding of public safety radio codes
Work Environment & Schedule:
- 12-hour shifts in a dispatch center environment
- Workstation includes 6 monitors and multiple input devices
- Must be comfortable in dim lighting conditions
- Essential personnel status - may be required during emergencies/natural disasters
Physical Requirements:
- Able to remain seated for extended periods
- Occasional light lifting
- Manual dexterity for operating multiple computer systems
- May require occasional travel for training
