What are the responsibilities and job description for the Microscope Engineer position at Coastal Microscopes?
Role Overview:
As a Microscope Engineer at Coastal Microscopes, you will be integral in maintaining and enhancing the functionality and reliability of our range of microscopes, cameras, and imaging systems. Your expertise will be pivotal in refurbishing and repairing these instruments both at our facilities and across the U.S. This role encompasses a variety of responsibilities, including technical assessments of new instruments, managing inventory, fulfilling orders, and updating procedural and equipment documentation.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
- Conduct in-house and field services including repair, calibration, upgrades, verification, validation, reconditioning, and integration of laboratory equipment.
- Efficiently manage and document service records.
- Deliver exceptional technical support and customer service.
- Perform product demonstrations, both on-site and in-house, as needed.
- Maintain and manage service tools and equipment.
- Research and understand product designs and capabilities.
- Develop and implement cost-effective service strategies and quality assurance procedures.
- Participate in technical training and industry trade shows.
- Be willing to travel domestically for field services as necessary.
Skills and Qualifications Desired:
- Degree or experience in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or a background in Biology or similar fields.
- Experience in laboratory equipment repair and maintenance.
- Prior service experience with brands like Zeiss, Nikon, Olympus, Leica is beneficial.
- Experience in laboratory/research instrumentation use & applications.
- Knowledge in systems integration and knowledge of programming languages.
- Organizational, time management, Strong verbal and written communications skills
- The ability to work well in a team environment.
- A willingness to be flexible and learn various product & system types is a must.

- Base Salary
- Commission Plan Option– commissions are based on sales (shipped and invoiced orders) and are paid quarterly during the month following the quarter. Commissions range from 1% to 8%, based on performance
