Job Description
Responsible for overseeing the overall capital markets strategy on transactions to ensure successful origination and distribution of syndicated loans led and co-led by CoBank. Coordinates internal and external constituents to achieve strategic goals and maximize profitability. At CoBank, a Syndicate Head reports to the Capital Markets Division Head. Essential Functions
- Serves as the final decision maker to determine the pricing and structure of transactions launched into the market.
- Manages with the other Syndicate Heads all firm underwriting decisions (and other risk positions) made on behalf of the division and the related tracking/reporting of underwritten transactions for key internal constituents.
- Tracks market behaviors and provides market updates to internal and external audiences on a routine basis.
- Responsible for assisting in the development of Analysts, Senior Associates and Associate Directors in Capital Markets.
- Oversees the lender invitation and allocation process in conjunction with other key internal constituents.
- Manages the communication of investor feedback with Syndicate Managers, Relationship Managers, and borrower customers; recommends any potential changes to in-market transaction pricing and/or structure depending on specific market feedback.
- In coordination with Relationship Managers and TOM, may periodically pitch new business to borrower customers in situations where enhanced market intelligence and transaction experience are beneficial.
- Where CoBank leads transactions, manages the dialog and coordination among co-lead partners to provide consistent messaging to involved parties.
- Interfaces with the Capital Markets Division Head to set the strategic directions for the Capital Markets division and oversee its implementation.
- Manages high-level relationships with key borrower customers and investors.
- Oversees all underwriting decisions and tracking/reporting of underwritten transactions.
- Provides market insights and strategic advice to the Capital Markets Division Head, senior management, and the Board of Directors.
- Works with the Capital Markets Division Head on management responsibilities, reporting requirements, budgeting decisions, and strategic business reviews.
- Mentors and coaches senior staff in order to foster a high-performance culture.
- Encourages, engages, and provides updates to new and existing customers as it relates to capital market conditions, marketplace, transactions, market updates, industry structuring deal advice and representing the division for all new customer business matters.
- Balances risk and return deal metrics designed to achieve profitable outcomes.
- Provides mentoring and coaching support to other staff.
- Strong business knowledge and experience interpreting financial data.
- Ability to effectively research new markets.
- Develop and pitch new ideas to existing and prospective customers.
Education
- Bachelor's Degree required
- Master's Degree or advanced degree (MBA) preferred
Work Experience
- 15 years of experience, preferably in banking or financial services industry required
- 10 years of relevant managerial experience required
- Extensive experience in managing capital markets operations.
- Proven record of accomplishment in negotiating large, complex financial transactions.
- In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements and structured financing techniques.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven experience negotiating acceptable structures on large, complex credits.
- Extensive knowledge of non-recourse and structured financing techniques.
- Familiarity with inter-creditor agreements, syndications, and loan participations.
- Broad knowledge of regional and national regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated proficiency in cross-marketing.
- Excellent business acumen, and analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage multiple projects and transactions, and deliver on commitments within tight timeframes and competing priorities.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and build and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of associates, management, and internal customers across the bank, as well as external vendors and other stakeholders.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to deliver commitments while juggling multiple projects and priorities. Ability to work effectively under deadline pressures and adjust quickly and effectively to changing priorities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills, with demonstrated ability to clearly articulate messages to a variety of audiences. Excellent active listening skills.

About CoBank
The typical base pay range for this role is between $267,200 - $328,580. Compensation may vary based on individual job-related knowledge, skills, expertise, and experience. This position is eligible for a discretionary annual incentive program driven by organization and individual performance.
