This position is located at the new Gritters Library in East Cobb County and supervises the part-time Library Technician positions.
The purpose of this classification is to assist in providing services to library patrons, managing library collections and implementing library programs.
Responsibilities :
- Provides customer service to library patrons and the public : assists and provides information related to library programs, services, materials, facilities, equipment, fees, procedures, and other issues; responds to questions and complaints; researches problems and initiates resolutions; greets visitors and directs them within the library; assists patrons in requesting, selecting, and locating library materials.
- Develops and implements library programs and activities : designs programming for targeted readership; maintains records of program participation; assists in developing goals and objectives; recommends allocation of resources; interprets goals and policies to the public; coordinates physical facilities in the assigned area.
- Recommends the selection and development of library collections : selects books, periodicals, and other materials; prepares order lists for purchases; reviews donated materials; removes outdated materials from collections.
- Provides computer and reference assistance : assists patrons in finding information; instructs patrons in using library systems; suggests resources for queries; conducts formal training as needed.
- Monitors usage of library computers : explains and enforces library rules; performs basic maintenance and troubleshooting; coordinates service and repair activities.
- Processes inter-library loan requests : verifies requested materials; processes borrowing requests and incoming materials; completes related documentation.
- Provides outreach for the branch : visits schools to promote services; attends neighborhood organization meetings; promotes literacy programs; coordinates tours.
- Opens and closes library facilities : manages equipment; sets alarm systems; records daily counts of library usage.
- Monitors inventory levels of equipment and supplies : initiates requests for new materials; recommends purchases or leases of equipment.
- Performs duties of subordinate library personnel as needed : provides circulation / information services; repairs damaged books; re-shelves materials; restocks supplies; performs general upkeep tasks.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications :
Bachelor's Degree required; supplemented by two years of experience in library services; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Preferred Qualifications :
Tasks require moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, which may involve lifting, carrying, pushing and / or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).
Sensory Requirements : Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors : Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
