PUBLIC WORKS SAFETY AND TRAINING COORDINATOR - COUNTYWIDECLASSIFIED: Position is subject to the provisions of the Merit System Rules pursuant to Arizona Law. OPENS: Tuesday, January 7, 2025CLOSES: Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at 5 p.m.ANTICIPATED RATE OF PAY: $28.00 - $30.00 hourly dependent on qualifications, plus a comprehensive benefits plan to include membership in the Arizona State Retirement System. PLEASE NOTE: All Cochise County positions require a post offer, pre-employment background screening.Under general supervision, implements, monitors, and manages safety programs within the Public Works department. Ensures compliance with regulations, conducts inspections, identifies hazards, and provides safety training. Investigates accidents and recommends corrective action to minimize workplace accidents and injuries, promoting a safe work environment. Performs related duties as assigned.

Conducts regular safety inspections. Documents, organizes, and conducts safety training programs for employees, including emergency response drills. Investigates and analyzes accidents, near misses, and hazardous conditions to identify root causes and implement preventative measures. Maintains safety records, including incident reports, training documentation, and safety data sheets. Collaborates with the Director, Supervisors, and Superintendents to develop and update safety protocols and procedures. Conducts and documents safety audits and risk assessments to identify areas for improvement and ensure compliance with safety standards.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Knowledge of: principles and practices of safety programs; OSHA regulations applicable to County government; performing safety training; county government operation, or the ability to learn. Skill in: accident evaluation/investigation; effective training, including classroom presentation; interpersonal relations and communications; OSHA inspection activities. Ability to: coordinate, plan, organize, develop and deliver training programs; develop, and track programs to meet the safety needs of the Public Works Department; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees countywide;attend necessary staff meetings, program-related meetings, workshops, seminars, and conferences;travel frequently within the County as required;field occasional calls outside of typical business hours;read, write, and speak English;communicate effectively verbally and in writing;WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is primarily performed under general supervision in an office setting with appropriate climate controls and outdoors in a variety of climatic conditions. Requires travel and may include working early mornings, evenings and weekends.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Essential functions of this position require: lifting, manual dexterity, ability to communicate. Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force; frequently lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds requires a good deal of walking, standing or involves sitting most of the time with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls. Mental Application: Utilizes memory for details and verbal instructions, requires emotional stability, critical thinking, adaptability and creative problem-solving skills.
