Superintendents must be able to work all four days of the Fair as well as receiving, judging, outtake and Fair workdays. Superintendents are required to attend monthly planning meetings located at Fort Tuthill from January through August. Fair Superintendents manage their department’s buildings, entries, and demonstrations. They are responsible for coordinating the recruitment of judges and volunteers and must supervise the assigned building during fair hours. Previous experience with Fairs is a plus but not necessary. Training is provided.
The 2025 Coconino County Fair dates are Friday, August 29th – Monday, September 1st. The fair is open 10:00 am – 10:00 pm Friday to Sunday and 10:00 am – 4:00 pm on Monday. The Fair Work Day is scheduled for August 16, 2025.
Under limited supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled manual labor for support of the lessee events program.

This is a temporary position that does not include benefits.
Fair Superintendents will receive a $571.20 stipend upon completion of the Fair.

Typical Duties
(Illustrative Only)
- Attends monthly planning meetings located at Fort Tuthill from approximately October through August.
- Must be available and assist with department receiving, judging, check in/weigh-in, outtake, and Fair Workday for your specific area.
- Manage department buildings, Fair entries, and demonstrations.
- Recruit and coordinate volunteers to help with building duties and outreach during the fair.
- Works cooperatively with the Coconino County Parks and Recreation staff to identify and coordinate judges.
- Supervises the assigned building during fair work hours, approximately 7:30 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
- Effectively communicate with fair staff, volunteers, fair exhibitors, and the public.
Essential functions include but not limited to sitting, standing, in close vicinity people and livestock, walking and bending; twisting, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling heavy loads up to 60 lbs.; working with and around event producers, supervisors, and other crew members; interruptions; repetitive motion (elbow/shoulder); vision acuity (near/far); hearing and speech for ordinary conversation; finger dexterity/touch. Environmental factors may include and not limited to work outside; noise exposure; use of mechanical devices; exposure to odors and dust.

Any combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.

The ideal candidate will be proactive, an optimistic team player, and have a positive attitude with the ability to multitask; will have experience working with the public – primarily youth – and experience supervising volunteers is preferred; will have the ability to deal effectively with stress caused by public contact and to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with public; will have the ability to maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, fellow volunteers, and the public. Must be able to work under limited supervision. The ideal candidate is an effective communicator, who is reliable, and passionate about youth development.
Preferred qualifications: Year-round residence inside Coconino County; experience working with the public and customer service experience; valid Driver’s License; reliable transportation; experience working with youth for positions involving 4-H; previous fair experience.
