Coconino County Public Works is seeking to fill three Equipment Operator IV positions.
Two positions are located in Flagstaff and one position is located in Williams.

Under general supervision performs work of considerable difficulty in the operation of light and heavy equipment in maintaining and construction of county roads, drainage systems and public works support facilities. Performs related work as assigned.
- Assists supervision in the planning, scheduling, and implementation of assigned projects and daily workload
- Assists with developing trainings and performs training and testing evaluations
- Mentors crew members
- Must understand the obligations to comply with laws, regulations and policies related to Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and Employee Right to Know regulations
- Operates a variety of light and heavy equipment, including snow removal equipment for extended hours in extreme weather conditions
- Performs routine inspection and maintenance of equipment, vehicles, and facilities
- Sets up and maintains traffic control on maintenance and construction projects
- Performs specialized operations of all heavy and light equipment
- Inspects and applies appropriate maintenance required of assigned road system or project
- Prepares and maintains records and reports
- Trains staff on heavy and light equipment operations and on specific road maintenance techniques
- Inputs field and work performance information into Road Maintenance Data System
- Responds to emergencies and disasters as directed
- Responds to requests from law enforcement for traffic control and other support activities
- May assume responsibilities of Trades Supervisor in their absence
- May purchase supplies
- May assist in screening/interviewing applicants
- Requires working various 12-hour snow shifts
- May be assigned to other county locations based upon operational needs
- Responds to emergency situations
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must have a valid driver’s license; if hired from out of state, must obtain an Arizona driver's license within 30 calendar days of hire and maintain it throughout employment. Final job offer will be contingent upon a satisfactory 5-year Arizona Motor Vehicle Report.
Must have an Arizona unrestricted Class A CDL with Tanker Endorsement and maintain throughout employment; Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) training and recertification, Flagging Certification and First Aid/CPR Certification.
Must be able to operate Motor Grader during snow removal operations.
Block Three training shall be completed, along with LTAP Road Scholar I and actively working on LTAP Road Scholar II, as outlined in the CCPW Internal Training Development Plan, or equivalent certifications.
Operator IV is part of the career ladder track that invests in, supports and further enhances Operator skills in Coconino County Public Works.
The ideal candidate will show strong leadership skills and be willing to work both autonomously and with a team with limited supervision and direction.
This position is non-exempt from overtime.
This position is safety sensitive.
Considerable knowledge of:

Skill in:
- Operation of heavy equipment in complex maintenance and construction activities
- Safe and efficient operation of vehicles and equipment, including emergency equipment under adverse/severe weather conditions
- Pre and post equipment checks and identify and report mechanical issues
- Overseeing work zone traffic control on various maintenance and construction projects. Assess and establish traffic control plans
- Use of hand and power tools in routine maintenance as well complicated construction tasks
Ability to:
- Adhere to Federal, State, County and Local ordinances
- Read and understand MSDS labels and access the MSDS system for information
- Direct, evaluate, and review the work of others
- Effectively train others and conduct tests of performance of skills in the field and classroom
- Work varying shifts, weekends, and holidays
