Coconino County Public Works is seeking to fill three Equipment Operator IV positions. Two positions are located in Flagstaff and one position is located in Williams. Under general supervision performs work of considerable difficulty in the operation of light and heavy equipment in maintaining and construction of county roads, drainage systems and public works support facilities. Performs related work as assigned.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Assists supervision in the planning, scheduling, and implementation of assigned projects and daily workloadAssists with developing trainings and performs training and testing evaluationsMentors crew membersMust understand the obligations to comply with laws, regulations and policies related to Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and Employee Right to Know regulationsOperates a variety of light and heavy equipment, including snow removal equipment for extended hours in extreme weather conditionsPerforms routine inspection and maintenance of equipment, vehicles, and facilitiesSets up and maintains traffic control on maintenance and construction projectsPerforms specialized operations of all heavy and light equipmentInspects and applies appropriate maintenance required of assigned road system or projectPrepares and maintains records and reportsTrains staff on heavy and light equipment operations and on specific road maintenance techniquesInputs field and work performance information into Road Maintenance Data SystemResponds to emergencies and disasters as directedResponds to requests from law enforcement for traffic control and other support activitiesMay assume responsibilities of Trades Supervisor in their absenceMay purchase suppliesMay assist in screening/interviewing applicantsRequires working various 12-hour snow shiftsMay be assigned to other county locations based upon operational needsResponds to emergency situations Essential functions of this position include but are not limited to: hearing and speech for ordinary conversation; touch (finger dexterity) working with equipment. Environmental conditions include working in an outdoor environment high majority of time which includes exposure to cold, heat, moisture and humidity; exposure to vehicle noise and vibration.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Considerable knowledge of: Methods, materials, tools, and techniques used in functional areaLaws, regulations, rules, and policies relating to functional areaPrinciples and practices of positive supervisionOccupational safety practices and procedures, OSHA regulations Skill in: Operation of heavy equipment in complex maintenance and construction activitiesSafe and efficient operation of vehicles and equipment, including emergency equipment under adverse/severe weather conditionsPre and post equipment checks and identify and report mechanical issuesOverseeing work zone traffic control on various maintenance and construction projects. Assess and establish traffic control plansUse of hand and power tools in routine maintenance as well complicated construction tasksAbility to: Adhere to Federal, State, County and Local ordinancesRead and understand MSDS labels and access the MSDS system for informationDirect, evaluate, and review the work of othersEffectively train others and conduct tests of performance of skills in the field and classroomWork varying shifts, weekends, and holidaysRespond to emergencies on a 24-hour basisWork with a diverse team of individualsSupport a positive work environment and encourage engagement by all team membersSupport the professional development of other Operators and team membersLead and participates in all Departmental activities such as PW Day and Safety DayEffectively handle lifting of various objects weighing up to 60 poundsWork extended hours outdoors in a variety of weather conditionsPrepare and maintain records and reportsWorks safely and supports the culture of workplace safety by serving as a positive role model with regard to safe practicesEstablish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the publicFollow written and verbal instructions, including manufacturers' service specificationsCommunicate effectively verbally and in writingCoconino County is an Equal Opportunity Employer.AmeriCorps, Peace Corps and other national service alumni are encouraged to apply.
