Cocoons is a very well respected early childhood learning center with strong environmental and Montessori curriculum components. Students who attend Cocoons learn to be thoughtful compassionate problem solvers, kind friends, and future leaders who are passionate environmentalists as they move through life. Student-teacher ratios are never greater than 6-to-1, allowing teachers the time to give ongoing individual attention to each child.
Toddler (ages 2-3) Teacher Job Responsibilities for 2025-2026 academic year
Display a passion for developing age-appropriate educational activities and practice both inside and in nature
Maintain a positive mindset toward child learning and social-emotional development
Believe in the capability of young children to excel
Facilitate problem-solving
Demonstrate the ability to learn and convey a variety of subject matters quickly
Communicate effectively with students and parents, including sensitive topics
Work Hours & Benefits
Teachers work no more than 40 hours a week during the academic school year. Teachers have the summer off. With few exceptions, the school calendar replicates the local public schools, allowing for paid vacations and snow days during the academic year- September-early June. Each teacher is given a stipend to use for personal medical expenses and contribute to a retirement plan. Paid Continuing education is also a benefit. Teachers are paid on a competitive sliding scale based on education and experience.
Teacher Qualifications/Skills
Ability to inspire a love of outside exploration and environmental education
Ability to inspire a love animals
Ability to be creative when meeting a child’s academic needs
Ability to organize tasks and manage time
Ability to work with children with diverse levels of ability
Ability to communicate with children, fellow teachers, special educators, and parents
Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements
An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, or a related environmental field
An Ed Tech license obtained through the Maine Department of Education
Recent teaching experience or other activity in an area of primary instruction is a plus
