Content Strategist Consultant (Design System)
As a Content Strategist Consultant embedded within the Product Design team, you will apply your skills, strategic expertise, and talent for language to design intuitive, user-centered product experiences. You'll help users achieve their goals while aligning with business objectives. Our Product Design team is undergoing a significant digital transformation, and this role plays a vital part in ensuring success by implementing content strategy methodologies and UX writing practices to establish a consistent and unified voice across products.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Collaborating with designers and engineers to define the design system’s information architecture, templates, governance, and documentation guidelines.
- Establishing templates and governance for content best practices in our design system (leveraging the current content guide and collaborating with other content strategists).
- Partnering with designers to create guidelines for use cases, interactions, accessibility, and localization for design system components, including new component development.
- Increasing awareness and understanding of the design system and practices within the product design team and across product and engineering teams, including release notes and cross-team communication.
- Identifying opportunities and tools to support partners in effectively using design system components and guidance.
- Applying content strategy methodologies to plan for the creation, delivery, and governance of meaningful, effective content.
- Offering guidance on writing clear, consistent, concise user-interface copy for customer-facing, internal, and field team experiences.
- Developing, maintaining, and documenting content strategy processes and guidelines.
- Collaborating with researchers, UX designers, visual designers, engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to deliver impactful UX solutions.
- Advocating for solutions that align customer needs with business objectives.
- Leading the development of content processes to support a unified content ecosystem.
- Acting as a content expert, presenting and explaining work to stakeholders.
- Considering global perspectives to define content strategies that deliver exceptional experiences for diverse user groups.
- Defining clear, repeatable processes to help others within the organization understand how to engage with the content strategy team.
- Writing clear, consistent, concise user-interface copy for various audiences and platforms.
What This Role Needs
A qualified candidate for this role will have the following experience and skills:
- Experience working with design systems.
- Familiarity with content strategy practices such as:
- Auditing and analyzing existing content and content ecosystems.
- Defining and implementing taxonomies and content structures.
- Content modeling.
- Governing content.
- Strong writing skills, including grammar, spelling, and vocabulary.
- Proficiency in UX writing or content design.
- Experience developing guidelines for accessible and inclusive language.
- Ability to advocate for and adhere to brand voice, tone, and style requirements.
- Experience using evidence-based approaches, including business metrics, site assessments, competitive analysis, and research.
- Capacity to manage multiple projects and adapt to evolving priorities.
- Ability to collaborate effectively, seek clarity, and work independently.
- Openness to mentoring and learning from others.
- Strong interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Ability to simplify complex concepts for clear communication.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Technical Writing, UX, HCI, or equivalent practical experience.
- 6-8 years of experience in UX writing and/or content strategy in product, marketing, or tech organizations (including agency or freelance work).
- Demonstrated leadership experience.
- Experience working in large corporate environments is a plus.
