Coeur Mining is a U.S.-based, well-diversified, growing, precious metals producer with four wholly-owned operations : the Palmarejo gold-silver complex in Mexico, the Rochester silver-gold mine in Nevada, the Kensington gold mine in Alaska and the Wharf gold mine in South Dakota. Coeur Alaska’s Kensington mine comprises an underground, hard-rock gold mine, associated milling facilities and a campsite in the historic Berners Bay Mining District, 45 miles north-northwest of Juneau. The mine is accessed via company transportation including bus rides and a boat ride through Lynn Canal.

Approximately 380 miners, mechanics, engineers, operators, geologists, environmental technicians, exploration, and business leaders operate the Kensington mine. About the Job :

The Temporary Environmental Technician will report to the Environmental Coordinator and is responsible for safe and efficient sampling, data collection, and assistance with regulatory reporting. Additionally, the Environmental Technician will be responsible for conducting inspections and or monitoring related to air, water and waste compliance programs. The schedule for this position is 4 days on at the mine site located about 45-miles north of Juneau, accessible only through company transportation, and 3 days off. The timeframe for employment is approximately April 1, 2025 to November 1, 2025. With the possibility of returning in 2026 for the same timeframe.

Responsibilities :

  • Performs soil, groundwater, surface water, waste, sediment and air sampling
  • Collect, review and analyze environmental data
  • Input data into an environmental database
  • Uses field instruments and equipment as necessary to meet health and safety as well as field sampling and O&M requirements
  • Assist with preparation of routine submittals to regulatory agencies to document system performance and compliance with permit requirements
  • Documents all field activities and notes
  • Communicates effectively with project managers and client personnel
  • Has a high degree of health and safety awareness
  • Works within defined scopes, schedules and budgets while producing quality work
  • Maintains knowledge of sampling procedures and protocols in accordance with recognized industry standards

Required Qualifications & Skills :

  • Ability to work safe and promote safe behavior in others
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Associates or Bachelors Degree in environmental Sciences or applied sciences preferred
  • Approximately 1-3 years of environmental field experience in an industrial setting preferred but not necessary
  • Employees may be frequently exposed to surface and underground work environments; outside weather conditions, wet and / or humid conditions; extreme cold, extreme heat, potentially hazardous wildlife; moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; explosives and vibration. The noise level in most work environments is usually very loud. This position may require work on nights, weekends and rotating shifts; shift schedules may require residency in on-island camp during work rotations.
  • Possess good computer knowledge (Microsoft Office applications, e-mail, etc.)
  • Possess strong work ethic and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to get along with diverse personalities; tactful; mature; flexible.
  • Ability to work independently and to accept responsibility, ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Able to work in a remote outdoor environment, often in inclement weather
  • Periodically work in an underground mine setting
  • Able to hike several miles over uneven ground
  • Work occasional weekends as scheduled
  • Sets high standards for self and others, builds trust, and takes accountability
  • Preference given to Juneau residents.

    The schedule for this position requires residency in Juneau, AK. Temporary positions are not benefit eligible.
