Description
Provides direct and indirect patient care in the Rural Health clinic. The employee in this position is primarily responsible for taking care of the administrative functions involved with scheduling appointments and answering phone calls from patients. May also be responsible for nursing care under the supervision of physicians, mid-level providers and clinical nursing manager. Establishes and maintains professional relationships with Physicians, Patients and all other hospital personnel. Meets the communication needs of the department staff and patient/family. Uses customer service principles and techniques to deal with patients calmly and pleasantly. Responsible for helping nursing staff complete Prior Authorizations (PA) and RQI’s for clinic patients as well as rooming of patients.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- Graduate of an accredited Nursing school or experience equivalent as approved by CFC Physician
- Current certification as required by law
- Current BLS
- Previous experience in family practice nursing highly preferred
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) highly desired
Roles and Responsibilities:
Scheduler
- Obtains physicians' schedules on an established schedule; enters each physician's schedule in the computer system.
- Schedules patient appointments called in by patients, physicians, and physicians' offices.
- Obtains patient demographic and insurance information, enters into computer system.
- Updates information in the computer system for return patients.
- Provides patient with any pre-appointment special instructions.
- Answers the telephone in a professional and polite manner, communicates information to appropriate staff.
- Provides patients with general information about the clinic, directions to the clinic, etc.
- Monitors Stand by Appointment list
- Ensures that scheduling updates (e.g., cancellations or additions) are input immediately
- Maintains a good working relationship within the department and with other departments
- Communicates with staff clearly and appropriately
- Communicates as needed with providers and other staff about any patient concerns/issues related to scheduling
- Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Medical Assistant
- Rooms patients.
- Record patient’s vital signs: weight/height/BP/O2 saturation
- Records head circumference for infant patients
- Communicates with patients in reception area if the wait time exceeds 15 minutes
- Assists with referrals
- Assist with RQI
- Call in prescription refills
- Call patients for follow-up appointments
- Assists with calls to patients for RQI follow-up
- Assists with re-stocking rooms
- Assists with turning rooms over; clean rooms; pull table paper with folded edge at foot of table; wipe down counters and table;
- Check in patient in the electronic medical record system

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of general practice of medicine and medical terminology
- Standard diagnostic and medical equipment and instruments
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology. Familiarity with health care systems, regulations, policies, and functions. Understanding of documentation standards.
- Knowledge of equipment, supplies, and materials needed for medical treatment. Understanding of basic laboratory procedures including preparation and screening.
- Knowledge of infectious disease management and control and safety standards.
- Skill in reading and following written and oral medical orders.
- Skill in initiating appropriate emergency procedures.
- Skill in handling a number of tasks simultaneously.
- Skill in performing blood draws preferred
- Ability to use manual dexterity to perform medical treatments.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and diverse patient populations.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations for drug dosages.
- Skill in maintaining a clutter-free, organized exam and nursing area.

- Basic Microsoft computer skills or the ability to learn such skills.
