Job Title : Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Engineer

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Engineer to join our team in support of a mission-critical federal project in Woodlawn, MD. This role will be responsible for leading platform administration, automation, and optimization initiatives in a highly technical and collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead efforts to develop and implement strategies for operational efficiency and automation.
• Drive automation initiatives using Ansible Playbooks and related tools.
• Act as the technical lead for platform-related tasks, working closely with application teams and stakeholders.
• Collaborate with experienced technical teams on system upgrades, patching, and deployments.
• Perform system administration tasks, including RHEL patch management and daily support operations.
• Troubleshoot platform and application-level issues and provide timely resolutions.
• Maintain and update technical documentation (processes, procedures, configurations).
• Provide regular updates on tasks, projects, and operational health.
• Support middleware applications through installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor s degree in computer science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field and 7 years of relevant experience; 11 years accepted in lieu of a degree.
• Strong background in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.x/8.x system administration, including installation, configuration, performance tuning, optimization, and backup & recovery.
• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance (federal requirement).
• Experience supporting US Federal Government environments.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.

Technical Expertise:

• 7 years of hands-on RHEL administration experience.
• 5 years working with virtual platforms.
• 5 years of experience developing and maintaining Ansible Playbooks.
• 3 years of scripting experience for automation and deployments (e.g., Bash, Python).
• Proficient in the Linux command-line environment.
• Familiarity with RHEL tools such as Ansible, Satellite, etc.
• Strong troubleshooting skills across memory, CPU, networking, disk I/O, etc.

Preferred/Desired Skills:

• Prior experience in federal government IT projects.
• Ability to work independently and in team environments.
• Knowledge of change management and testing practices to ensure high system availability.
• Experience in fast-paced, enterprise environments with evolving priorities.
• Self-motivated and detail-oriented with excellent time management skills.

Additional Notes:

• This position is on-site only in Woodlawn, MD.
• Local candidates are strongly preferred.
• W-2 employment with the vendor is required.
