Job Summary
The Systems Engineer will work closely with Columbia Tech’s Staff Technologist and Project Engineering Manager to assess incoming opportunities and advise on alignment with the value-add proposition and capabilities of CT’s product development group. The person in this role will focus on analyzing customer and program needs early in the development cycle, providing consultation to both internal and client team members to generate and document requirements and specifications.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Team leader that demonstrates alignment with the Coghlin Companies core values and mission in their daily interaction and communication with team members
· Principal point of technical contact with customer and internal project teams
· Provides technical assessment and feasibility evaluation of conceptual designs and ensures adherence to CT’s design review process
· Leads the creation of technical documents including the generation of Functional Requirements Document (FRD)
· Assesses technical solutions and provides feedback to the team
· Works with Project Engineering Manager to provide oversight and guidance to Project Engineers related to technical content and overall product development process adherence.
· Assists in the development of the Project Plan, including the detailed WBS (Work Breakdown Structure) and associated time and materials resource estimation for assigned projects at the start of each project phase.
· Contributes to continuous process improvement within the group
Qualifications
· BS in an engineering/related discipline, MS preferred
· 8 years of engineering product development experience; demonstrated success of managing complex projects from inception to commercialization; excellent systems engineering skills critical
· Strong skills in project management by influence rather than authority is crucial to this role
· Experience in the technical management of cross-functional engineering disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, and software
· Experience with ERP and PDM systems required, Experience with Kinetic and SolidWorks PDM a plus
· Project management experience in a Time & Materials environment, executed to an approved statement of work
· Experience with Agile project management techniques, and supporting software tools, a plus
· Excellent written and communication skills, including experience presenting to customers and internal leadership
Working Environment
· Generally works in an office environment, but may occasionally be required to perform job duties outside of the typical office setting. Occasional travel required.
Physical Requirements
· Interaction with people and technology while either standing or sitting.
· Must be able to communicate face-to-face and on the phone.
