Job Summary
The Drill & Blast Superintendent will oversee project activities related to drilling and blasting operations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for onsite coordination of equipment and personnel including drill foreman, drill crew, blaster in charge, blast specialist, and blast crew to ensure the project’s quality, time, budget and safety requirements are met while maintaining a communication with other onsite supervisors and the owner’s representatives. This position will play a pivotal role in the project and organization success as a frontline manager.
Specific knowledge relating to explosives handling and storage, drill operation and maintenance, and blasting practices and design will be required.

Job Summary
The Drill & Blast Superintendent will oversee project activities related to drilling and blasting operations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for onsite coordination of equipment and personnel including drill foreman, drill crew, blaster in charge, blast specialist, and blast crew to ensure the project’s quality, time, budget and safety requirements are met while maintaining a communication with other onsite supervisors and the owner’s representatives. This position will play a pivotal role in the project and organization success as a frontline manager.
Specific knowledge relating to explosives handling and storage, drill operation and maintenance, and blasting practices and design will be required.
Main Responsibilities
- Directly supervise all aspects of drilling and blasting operations.
- Collaborate with other onsite supervision and the owner’s representative.
- Interface regularly with the Project Engineer and the Blasting Consultant to address matters related to blasting and the quality control of the Blaster in Charge’s work.
- Implement safety protocols and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements related to blasting activities.
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of blasting operations, making adjustments as necessary to optimize production.
- Maintain accurate records and reports on production, quality control, and safety activities.
- Must be able to work Saturdays and Sundays. Typical weekly work hours can meet or exceed 60 hours.
- Develop and mentor direct reports.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in earthwork operations, with at least 2 years specifically focused on blasting activities.
- Strong knowledge of drilling and blasting techniques and the ability to manage quality control processes.
- Proven experience in project scheduling and coordination with multiple stakeholders.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively interface with engineers, consultants, and field personnel.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions under pressure.

- Relevant certifications in blasting operations and safety (e.g., Blaster’s License) preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of blasting experience utilizing controlled blasting techniques.
- Minimum 5 years of specialized experience with presplitting techniques, including precision presplitting, in mixed rock types similar to the bedrock strata present at the project site.
- Minimum experience as the Blaster in Charge from start to finish on at least two rock excavation projects requiring 100,000 linear feet of controlled blasting each project with no claims to the owner.
- Experience with Sandvick drills
- Exert force of 20-50 pounds occasionally, 10-25 pounds frequently, or 10 pounds constantly.
