Colby-Sawyer College is seeking an Access Control & Security Specialist to oversee the safety and wellbeing of people and property on the college campus by serving as the central campus resource on issues of mechanical and electronic locking systems, emergency response systems, and all attendant tracking, authorization, and recordkeeping. The position requires being “on-call” when not on campus and planning for coverage when not available. The position has a full time, 12-month work schedule.
This position includes responses to calls for service that are usually handled by Campus Safety Officers in support of the overall work of the Department of Campus Safety. This secondary focus for the Access Control and Security Specialist is mainly to ensure adequate coverage by Campus Safety personnel for routine service calls and emergencies.
Primary Responsibilities
- Plan, install, service, and maintain mechanical and electronic lock systems
- Maintain lock shop, keep the area neat, organized and professional
- Expedite work order requests for service, communicate status of order to requestor and applicable billing
- Make emergency repairs to lock systems
- Cut key replacement as needed, record same, bill where appropriate
- Add new keys and cores for new construction, cut, pin and record same in BEST© software system
- Compile and update a confidential log of system codes; Record and classify activities in a system code
- Manually operate a key coding machine
- Repair, service, and adjust all types of doors, such as hollow metal and aluminum storefront doors; Interpret and use blueprints and layouts related to lock systems
- Service, adjust or replace all types of door closers
- Service, repair, and install exit devices, panic hardware, coordinators, and other door related hardware
- Determine the correct lock system to be installed at a variety of facilities
- Log keys that are issued and returned; Process the key data using the BEST© software system
- Proactively program access in the DNA Fusion, Locknetic and Schlage systems using the event calendar, academic calendar, and/or authorized requests, update as needed in a timely manner
- Maintain ledgers for key inventories; filing all signed forms for students, faculty and staff
- Estimate time and material costs on proposed projects; Complete requisitions for materials and equipment related to key installations and engraving; Procure and stock material for bench stock
- Collaborate with contractors/vendors involved in campus projects
- Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service
- Coordinate outer departmental support of lock services when not available
- Manage security related equipment to include surveillance and communications
- Work with minimal supervision, responding to the needs of the campus and establishing priorities in consultation with the Director of Campus Safety or designee.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Respond to complaints/calls related to possible rule violations, act to stop rule violations, and document actions taken in a log and/or incident report format
- Investigate traffic accidents and/or violations on campus
- Respond to calls involving medical emergencies. Perform first aid/CPR and call for additional assistance as appropriate
- Report any incidents and unusual or hazardous conditions on campus to appropriate College officials and/or local law enforcement personnel
- Call for and assist local police, fire, and rescue personnel as appropriate. Follow established procedure while awaiting their arrival, including evacuating buildings, crowd control, assuring emergency equipment availability, etc.
- Provide safety escort services as needed to students
- Provide security services such as parking and traffic direction, crowd control, etc., for special events. Provide directions and information to visitors and guests as needed
