What are the responsibilities and job description for the Grounds Supervisor position at Colby-Sawyer College?
The Grounds Supervisor oversees the college grounds operations to ensure a safe, clean and aesthetically pleasing environment exists on the college campus. Works under the general supervision of the Director of Facilities and provides day to day first line supervision to the grounds personnel. The Grounds Supervisor performs a variety of field supervisory and complex skilled and semi-skilled duties as needed to perform various phases of turf, paved surface and landscape maintenance and beautification.
Responsibilities
- Provides general supervision to grounds personnel to determine appropriate work priorities and schedules on a daily basis.
- Operates and trains staff on a variety of small and light equipment and oversees routine, regular and preventative maintenance on equipment to assure efficiency and safety.
- Operates and oversees snow removal and the ability to work long hours during inclement weather events.
- Knowledge of lining and maintaining athletic sports fields.
- Coordinates and participates in soil preparation and grading, planting of lawns, trees, shrubs and other greenery; determines and implements watering schedules; plants perennials, annuals and ornamental flowers.
- Experience and working knowledge of the following: seeding, sodding, pest control, mowing, watering, pruning, trimming, edging, mulching and irrigation maintenance.
- Assist other facilities department functions such as moving furniture, assist trades on project work, assist events with setups and any other assigned duties as needed.
- Operate skid steer, tractors, zero-turn mowers, hand tools, plows, sanders, sidewalk machines and other regularly used equipment.
