Monday through Friday, and 7:30 am - 3:30 pm

DESCRIPTION:
Colcord Public Schools is committed to serving our Native American students appropriately and equitably. The majority of our Native American student population is Cherokee. A significant need identified to serve our Cherokee students is integrating the Cherokee language and culture into our schools.
The Cultural Instructional Assistant / Elementary Cherokee Language Push-In Coordinator effectively implements and executes the Cherokee Language Push-In Program at Colcord Elementary. The push-in program is a social studies supplement that teaches the Cherokee language and culture to small groups of elementary students. The position also serves as a JOM Special Projects Coordinator and will hold the Cherokee Club weekly to prepare students for JOM Special Projects competitions. (Extra Duty Stipend—$3,000) This position is funded through the district’s Title VI- Indian Education & JOM programs.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Tier I certified (or be willing to become certified)
- Tier II certified (or be willing to become certified)
- Cherokee language/cultural skills (or be willing to acquire language/cultural skills)
- Prior paraprofessional or teaching experience is preferred but not required.
- Applicant cannot be related to any currently seated school board members within the second degree of affinity or consanguinity.
- Must pass a required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties and responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
- Working in conjunction with teachers to maintain a positive classroom learning environment.
- Prove one-on-one instruction to students, work with small groups of children to reinforce lessons, and supervise students in the classroom. Assisting in the preparation of instructional resources and aiding students in the use of these resources.
- Coordinate and implement the Cherokee Language Push-In Coordinator at Colcord Elementary.
- Develop Cherokee language and cultural resources for the Cherokee Language Push-In Coordinator at Colcord Elementary.
- Maintain a weekly activity planning form for the Cherokee Language Push-In Coordinator at Colcord Elementary.
- Schedule and organize cultural activities and presentations.
- Development and implementation of the Elementary Cherokee Word-of-the-Day Program.
- Serve as a JOM Special Projects Coordinator and hold the Cherokee Club weekly to prepare students for JOM Special Projects competitions. (Extra Duty Stipend- $3,000)
- Contribute to and attend all activities, competitions, events, and meetings concerning Native American Programs.
- Complete all reports and forms promptly as requested by the Title VI Project Director.
- Utilize Smore and assist the Title VI Project Director with developing the monthly Native American Programs Newsletter.
- Provide the Title VI Project Director with pictures and videos of student participation in activities and projects. This will assist the Title VI Project Director in creating the annual JOM PowerPoint presentation.
- Assist with executing a yearly fundraiser. Funds raised will be deposited in the Native American Programs activity account for additional supplies, resources, and materials.
- Attend training, conferences, and professional development opportunities as requested by the Title VI Project Director.
- Work with the Title VI Project Director, Cultural Educator, and the JOM Special Projects Coordinators to promote the Cherokee language and culture across the district.
- Be an advocate of the Cherokee language and culture.
- This position will be under the supervision, direction, and evaluation of the Title VI Project Director. The Title VI Project Director may assign additional duties and responsibilities not mentioned above if they are related to the effective execution of the Native American Programs.
TRAINING & MEETING REQUIREMENTS:
- Attend professional development training opportunities as required by district policy.
- Attend professional development training opportunities as required by the Title VI Project Director.
- Attend meetings and provide information to the Administration or Board of Education as requested.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Operate in a classroom environment.
- Routinely use standard classroom technology and equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Employment is considered annually in accordance with Oklahoma law. Compensation is to be determined by the school board.

The performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with Oklahoma law and the provisions of the board’s policy on evaluations.
