This is a bargaining unit position that will require some evening and weekend work as needed.

Requirements
· Currently in good standing with a power line apprenticeship education and training program.
· Must possess a valid Illinois Class 'A' Commercial Driver's License.
· Maintain the ability to perform pole top rescue and bucket truck rescue.
· Must maintain primary residence within the lesser of a 30 mile radius of the Coles-Moultrie Electric Cooperative facility.
Responsibilities:
As an Apprentice Lineman, you will develop the skills and knowledge necessary to become a Journeyman Lineman through a program of progressive training and experiences in the construction, operation and maintenance of the electric system. You will assist in providing members with a reliable source of energy that is available when needed.
Duties Include but not limited to:
· Assist the line personnel, observe safety rules at all times, and execute service and work orders.
· Climb poles and perform work on energized lines of single phase lines of 7200v under the direct supervision of a Journeyman Lineman.
· Perform the complicated line construction and maintenance work on energized secondary’s and on dead structures and equipment in accordance with approved specifications.
· Perform the complicated work on energized primary conductors and equipment instruction and training.
· String, splice, sag, and tie electric conducts on energized lines
· Install and change out meters, transformers, cutouts, reclosers, breakers, sectionalizers and other associated apparatus on lines not to exceed 7200v under direct supervision of a Journeyman Lineman.
· Perform and develop basic skills in hot line work using hot line tools in accordance with prescribed procedures and good safety practices.
· Perform all duties for retirement and removal of electric lines, account for all materials removed, and see that retired materials are disassembled fully before checking them into the warehouse.
· Complete scheduled tool and equipment inspection.
· Perform “service watch” duty assignments starting the 3rd step of the apprenticeship accompanied by a Journeyman Lineman.
KEY COMPETENCIES:
Strong focus on safety:Working knowledge of the hazards that exist in the form of falls, electric shock, electric flash, falling objects, and traffic
Competent in electricity: Knowledge of the Rural Utilities Service Specifications and Guidelines, substations, switching devices, transformer banks, oil circuit breakers, voltage regulators, line fuses, line currents, and voltage levels. Adheres to bucket weight limits and participates in bucket truck and pole-top rescue training.
Analytical abilities: Able to gather relevant data using appropriate methodologies and analyze that data in such a manner that valid conclusions and insinuations can be drawn that assist in making important business decisions.
