Position Description
The Department of Geology and Environmental Geosciences (https://charleston.edu/geology/index.php) at the College of Charleston is accepting applications for a full-time (nine-month per year) Instructor of Geology and lab manager position to begin August 16, 2025. The successful candidate will hold at a minimum a Master's degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or closely-related discipline. The department is seeking a dedicated person with experience in and passion for geoscience education who can excel at teaching introductory geology courses (Environmental Geology, Earth History and related laboratory courses). Duties will include; teaching introductory courses and labs, coordinating materials for General Education lab science courses, supervising student workers, weekly specimen set-up, and updating course material on our online learning management platform. The successful candidate will also be able to train and mentor Graduate Teaching Assistants in our department.

The Department of Geology and Environmental Geosciences currently has 150 undergraduate students in the programs of Geology, Environmental Geosciences, and Geoinformatics and we provide General Education lab science courses to 900 students per semester from across campus. We also offer many topical and interdisciplinary elective courses. Our faculty contribute to the Environmental and Sustainability Studies programs (Bachelor's and Master's), the Honors College, and the First-Year Experience program. We have faculty expertise in marine geology, geochemistry, paleoceanography, coastal processes, environmental geology, planetary sciences, geospatial sciences, geophysics, tectonics, natural hazards, and hydrology. There are also vibrant collaborations with institutions across the Charleston area, the Southeast U.S. region, nationally and internationally.
