Job Purpose
The Support Coordinator for the CharlestonLIFE program assists students with intellectual and developmental disabilities ( IDD ). Responsibilities include case management, teaching, service coordination, counseling, and implementing services and accommodations for students in the program.
Minimum Requirements
Master's degree or equivalent experience in social work, special education, or a related field, with two years experience in intellectual disability, is required. Preferred qualifications include certification in special education or social work licensure and experience in implementing and facilitating educational groups. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and / or education are encouraged to apply.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Working knowledge of inclusive education for students with mild intellectual disabilities.
- Excellent student service and problem-solving skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with an emphasis on proper documentation and protecting sensitive information.
- Proven ability to effectively train others.
- Strong interpersonal skills and experience working with diverse populations.
- Knowledge of FERPA compliance and a commitment to ongoing adherence.
- Proficient with computers and technology.
- Ability to independently manage a caseload while collaborating within a team structure.
- Adaptable to the office's needs and goals, capable of handling daily operations and student crises.
- Skilled in evaluating students' needs to develop comprehensive accommodation plans.
- Self-starter with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Additional Comments Regarding Position
This position is a full-time position. The support coordinator will be on-call for one week every 6-8 weeks and must communicate with students during College evacuations (e.g., hurricanes).
