Job Summary
This position is responsible for coordinating the operations of a science lab.
Responsibilities
1 -
Completes all tasks related to preparing, setting up, and taking down laboratory activities
2 -
Procures, receives, organizes, maintains, and stores all lab equipment, supplies, samples and chemicals; maintains an adequate inventory and manages/organizes inventory list.
3 -
Meets with faculty to discuss lab exercises and to improve lab procedures
4 -
Ensures that federal, state, local, Board of Regents, and OSHA guidelines are followed and maintains current Material Safety Data Sheets and other appropriate and required documents
5 -
Hires, trains, schedules and mentors student assistants
6 -
Submits biannual reports to the Board of Regents
7 -
Performs routine calibration of laboratory equipment
8 -
Performs related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in a course of study related to Physical Science
Other Required Qualifications
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug test and will be subject to random drug testing
Required Experience
- Familiarity with Physical Science laboratory through coursework or professional experience
Preferred Qualifications
- More than two years of related experience
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Knowledge of the safe handling and disposal of microbiological materials, biohazards, and chemical waste
- Knowledge of autoclave operations
- Knowledge of the principles involved with working with live culture media
- Knowledge of math
- Knowledge of laboratory safety principles
SKILLS
- Skill in the cleaning, maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment.
- Skill in the management of material inventories.
- Skill in decision making and problem solving.
- Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
