The Student Accessibility Services (SAS) Counselor will be a member of an integrated support staff providing services to disabled students. The counselor will also serve as liaison with campus and community agencies serving individuals with disabilities.
College of Marin is looking for Full-time Faculty who:

Essential Functions
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provides academic, career-oriented, and personal counseling to persons seeking services from SAS
- Provides instruction and develops curriculum to support students with academic services and career exploration
- Develops plans for students seeking accessibility support and/or reasonable accommodation
- Assists instructors and students in identifying academic adjustments that may aid in improving the learning environment
- Provides professional learning workshops for staff, faculty and community
- Advises, assists and evaluates student performance and learning outcomes;
- Maintains and submits accurate student records in a timely manner as required;
- Participates in program activities, including program planning, new teaching and learning methods, and resource development
- Contributes to development of program policies and procedures
- Participates in college professional or shared governance committees and in departmental activities such as student equity efforts, student learning outcomes assessment, curricular redesign and development, intervention and crisis support teams, recruitment, orientation activities, etc.
- Actively engages in community outreach with K-12 districts, community organizations and partners, and prospective students, providing information on support services and educational opportunity available through the District
- Maintains currency and depth of knowledge in assigned area of responsibility
- Maintains appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
Requirements & Desirables
REQUIREMENTS
1.) A Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling; OR
2.) A Master's degree in: Counseling; Guidance Counseling; Student Personnel; Clinical or Counseling Psychology; Education Counseling; Social Work; Career Development; Marriage and Family Therapy; or Marriage, Family and Child Counseling; OR a Bachelor's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy or in Marriage, Family and Child Counseling AND a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT)
AND
A.) Fifteen (15) or more semester units in upper division or graduate level coursework related to people with disabilities; or
B.) Completion of six (6) semester units, or the equivalent, of a graduate-level counseling practicum or counseling field work courses, in a post-secondary Disabled Students Programs and Services program or in a program dealing with people with disabilities; or
C.) Two (2) years of full-time experience, or the equivalent, in one or more of the following:1. Counseling for students with disabilities; or
2. Counseling in industry, government, public agencies, military or private social welfare organizations in which the responsibilities are for persons with disabilities, or the equivalent.
OR
3.) The equivalent; AND
4.) Demonstrated sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and the campus community.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (Desirable Attributes & Skills)
- Understanding equity as the recognition of historical and systemic disparities in opportunity and outcomes and providing the resources necessary to address those disparities;
- An equity-minded counseling approach focused on creating a welcoming and inclusive space that supports student engagement and success;

- Working knowledge of Sections 504 & 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, and other disability legislation at State and Federal levels affecting the provision of disability services at a California community college;

- Knowledge of and skill in use of computer technologies for educational purposes, including computer-based learning;
- Commitment to the counseling professions, its goals and ideals, and enthusiasm for the mission of the College of Marin;
- Evidence of commitment to professional growth and service which may include, but is not limited to presenting workshops, attending conferences or training, development of curriculum and instructional materials, membership in school/college committees or production of classroom-based research, membership in professional organizations;
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively and professionally with the campus.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Prior to employment, the selected candidate will be required to complete the following:
- In accordance with Federal Law all employees must provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.

- COVID-19 Vaccination Status: All employees new to the District who access campuses or other District facilities, and/or participate in off-site work in-person for the District, must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, prior to employment unless approved as exempt due to verified medical or religious reasons (as defined in federal or state laws and regulations).
- California Education Code, Section 87408.6 requires persons employed by a community college in an academic or classified position to submit to a TB risk assessment developed by CDPH and CTCA and, if risk factors are present, an examination to determine that he or she is free of infectious TB; initially upon hire and every four years thereafter.
- Certificated candidates who have not previously been employed in an academic position in California will be required to provide a medical certificate from a licensed physician showing that the candidate is free from any communicable disease unfitting the candidate to instruct or associate with students. The medical exam shall have been conducted not more than six months before submission of the certificate and shall be at the expense of the candidate. (Ed. Code Section 87408.6)
- DISASTER SERVICE WORKERS: All Marin Community College District (MCCD) employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the MCCD requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency. BARGAINING UNIT & RETIREMENT PLAN
UPM - Full-time Faculty:
Employees in this position classification are represented by the United Professors of Marin (UPM/AFT 1610). Faculty members are required to comply fully with the United Professors of Marin Collective Bargaining Agreement, including payment of union dues or charitable contributions. General information regarding rights and responsibilities under the Agreement can be found in the Collective Bargaining Agreements section of our Human Resources site. Full-time UPM employees are also members of the California State Teachers' Retirement System (CalSTRS).
SALARY INFORMATION
FLSA Status: Exempt
Counselors are placed on the Faculty Salary Schedule. Please refer to the Faculty (UPM/AFT) Salary Schedule on our Human Resources site for detailed information. Step 14 is the highest entering step for permanent teachers new to the District. Salary placement is non-negotiable and is dependent upon verified background and experience.
