The Scholarly Project (SP) is a required 4-year longitudinal course designed to stimulate critical thinking, enhance intellectual acuity and inquisitiveness, and to foster excellence in the development of clinician educators, clinician scientists and physician investigators. The SP allows medical students, years 1 through 4, to conduct research with a faculty mentor on a topic of interest in the fields of health and health care. This role leads provides high-level administrative support and oversight for various programmatic components of administering this course. This incumbent will collaborate with the curriculum team to assist in curriculum management, compliance reporting, data tracking and monitoring. The Program Coordinator, Senior supports, facilitates and coordinates research activities and plays a critical role in matching students with an appropriate faculty mentor.

Duties & Responsibilities
Course Management
- Collaborate with the Course Director and Assistant Directors to plan, design, and coordinate block/course sessions for the Scholarly Project course.
- Oversee the curriculum management system for SP (input/update student grades, monitor course feedback, ensure course materials are accessible to students/faculty).
- Create/update program materials (handbooks, syllabi, tracking spreadsheets).
- Coordinate course lectures (reserve classrooms, arrange for AV/Zoom).
- Track student completion of required assignments, including meetings with SP faculty, progress reports, and proposal submissions.
- Participate in the development and evaluation of new curriculum with the Course Director and Assistant Directors.
- Liaise with the Curricular Affairs and the Student Affairs departments to maintain up to date student records.
- Regularly attend the appropriate committee meetings for Course Directors/Assistant Directors and relay pertinent information from the Tucson Educational Policy Committee (TEPC).
- Collaborate with the College of Medicine-Tucson IT Team to build the infrastructure and processes for tracking student/faculty mentor research projects are consistently up to date.
- Provide reports that facilitate the review/assessment of current curriculum to ensure that courses/program meet intended objectives and requirements.
- Routinely work with appropriate faculty, staff and educational leaders to develop, maintain, and revise curriculum documents based on systemic reviews and analysis. This includes revising session and course objectives to match educational best practices.
- Actively pursue opportunities to engage with potential faculty mentors that can take on undergraduate student mentees (e.g. workshops, webinars, conferences etc.).
- Ensure continued progress of undergraduate medical student research (facilitate mentor/mentee matches, get students access to research systems, connect students with funding support, maintain up to date reports on their progress, maintain records on students' published research.
- Liaise with Financial Affairs to process meeting travel requests, grants, fellowships and discretionary funding to support medical student research.
- Ability to independently research policies and protocols at national and U of A levels as needed for reports, LCME accreditation documentation, and updates to medical education materials that are under the auspices of medical education and/or scholarly project.
- Demonstrated ability to triage and prioritize tasks with minimal direction.
- Intermediate to Advanced skill in organizing and managing timelines and materials for department projects.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Beginner to Intermediate experience in an academic medicine setting.
- Beginner to Intermediate experience in MedLearn and D2L, or some familiarity and understanding of similar platforms.
- Intermediate to Advanced experience in Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Intermediate to Advanced experience with Information Technology systems.
- Experience liaising and communicating across all levels of hierarchy in a multi-department organization.
