Job Title: Community Education Summer Day Camp Staff Position 2025
Wage Status: Non-exempt
Reports to: Director of Community Education
Pay Grade: TBD- Special Funded Per Annual Budget Allowance
Dept/School: Assigned Campus
Days: 70
Primary Purpose:
Provide a safe, quality Summer day camp program that produces developmentally appropriate, recreational and enrichment-based experiences for the children enrolled in Summer Day Camp.
Qualifications: Education/Certification:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must have a high school diploma
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle
- Ability to safely operate 15 passenger van
- Ability to safely lift and carry 50lbs.
Experience:
Experience working with school-age children in an after school or summer program
Training
- All staff members must be First Aid and CPR certified (can be trained by SDC).
- All staff members must be CPI certified (Crisis Prevention Intervention; will be trained by SDC.)
- All staff members must participate in the Child Abuse Awareness training
- All staff are required to attend the applicant orientation, staff retreat for camp training, planning and any other designated staff development.
Daily Responsibilities (but not limited to)
- Be knowledgeable about and adhere to proper procedures and expectations set forth by the Department of Family Protective Services, the Summer Day Camp handbook, and the school district employee handbook
- Staff members must be committed, caring, and understanding; they must be aware that they are to be positive role models for the campers.
- Portraying a professional and positive attitude and using leadership qualities effectively
- Carefully supervises and interacts with children and staff in a safe, fun, and responsible manner.
- Have the ability to effectively LEAD and ACTIVELY participate in activities of small and large groups.
- Actively supporting fellow staff during activities, discipline, and planning
- Redirecting campers appropriately
- Take initiative to solve problems, clean up, or take charge when needed.
- The ability to laugh at oneself.
- Maintains all building facilities, camp supplies, and equipment with care and pride. Reports any hazards to Site Supervisor
- Assist in conducting swim tests
- Assist the Site Supervisor and Assistant Site Supervisor in performing his/her responsibilities as deemed necessary.
Programming/Planning Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and implement innovative activities, clubs, crafts, special events, etc.
- Have a working knowledge of how to use Microsoft Office applications (word & excel) & email
- Meet assigned deadlines.
Communication Responsibilities
- Communicate openly with parents in a friendly manner about the progress of their child.
- Communicating openly and interacting professionally with school personnel, parents, and camp staff/directors/office personnel
- Attend weekly staff meeting.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Moderate standing, stooping, bending, and lifting.
