Job Summary

The Transportation Management Services Department, Traffic Operations section, is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Signal Systems Network Specialist. This position operates and maintains the County’s computerized traffic signal system and works directly with the signal timing staff. The successful candidate will bring strong analytical skills and a strategic mindset to contribute to the achievement of our organizational goals.

Essential Functions

• Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals. • Operates and maintains the County’s computerized traffic signal system; repairs traffic control devices as needed. • Develops traffic timing plans using computerized timing plan development program; analyzes vehicle volume counts; determines most efficient way to safely move large volumes on traffic on roadways; determines best methods to implement changes in movement of vehicular traffic and pedestrians; implements and optimizes traffic timing plans. • Performs network administration of computerized traffic signal system; maintains traffic system electronic database; maintains archive system of alarm logs and timing parameters; evaluates alarm logs to identify patterns of problems. • Maintains communication links with in-field traffic control devices. • Reviews technical specifications, equipment specifications, and construction design plans for new construction projects; ensures traffic equipment meets acceptable design standards; reports plan review findings to appropriate individuals. • Reviews County projects and developer projects for signal system impact analysis. • Provides in-house technical training for signal system staff. • Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, traffic timing plans, traffic timing analysis, system alarm logs, plan review findings, technical specification review findings, or other documents. • Communicates with supervisor, employees, other Divisions, consultants, contractors, vendors, the public, outside agencies, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems. • Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable laws and regulations; maintains an awareness of new technologies, methods, trends, and advances in the profession; reads professional literature; attends workshops and training sessions as appropriate.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required.
  • One (1) year of related experience.
  • Candidates without a degree should possess four (4) additional years of related experience.
  • Fingerprinting Required.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATES
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License with any applicable endorsement(s) to drive a County vehicle as provided in CMA 5805.

  • Salary offers above the minimum pay grade may be considered based on qualifications.
  • Essential Employees may be required to work during an undeclared or declared emergency. The County’s Administrative Office will determine who will be required to work on an incident-by-incident basis.
