What are the responsibilities and job description for the GIS Technician II (Facilities Management) position at Collier County?
Compiles complicated topographic and planimetric information to produce maps including the gathering of field data.
Enters data into the GIS database through the conversion of existing files and databases.
Transfers complicated graphical and non-graphical information from existing documents to layout maps and/or forms.
Processes data gathered from digitizing and scanning to access complete mapping projects.
Performs quality control by comparing completed maps and data to original datasets to locate and correct errors.
May train, assign, and review the work of lower-level technicians.
Receives and responds to special requests for GIS information from Division/Department staff.
Prepares/submits reports of projects and work activities; maintains records of time spent on each project for billing purposes.
Delivers GIS data and other detailed reports to County Departments/Divisions or other locations; obtains proper approval/signature for release of GIS information prior to distribution from or throughout the division.
Provides assistance and information related to division GIS activities; responds to routine questions/complaints and initiates problem resolution.
- Three (3) years of experience working directly with GIS applications and/or computer-automated drafting (CAD) that demonstrate the ability to read and understand engineering/construction drawings and as-built drawings, understanding of GPS coordinates and GIS principles, and knowledge of modern cartographic standards and principles; maintenance of a GIS database; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Experience in GIS data collection and ability to work as part of a team preferred.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATES:
- Must possess or have the ability to obtain within two (2) years from the date of hire/promotion an ESRI GIS Desktop Associate Certificate.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License with any applicable endorsements and maintain eligibility requirements and endorsement(s) to drive a County vehicle as provided in CMA 5805.
- Fingerprinting required.
- Salary offers above the minimum pay grade may be considered based on qualifications.
- Essential Employees may be required to work during an undeclared or declared emergency. The County’s Administrative Office will determine who will be required to work on an incident-by-incident basis.
