Collins Aerospace is looking for a motivated Mechanical Engineering Co-Op student to help design, develop and maintain high quality, reliable and safe avionic equipment.

As an engineering co-op in our Displays, Computing, & Networking Products department, you will be responsible for working with other hardware and systems engineers to support new and existing products. Projects include support of cockpit displays and control panels, servos for control surface actuation, as well as a variety of other avionics equipment to enable aircraft connectivity.

Immerse yourself in a full-time, Monday-Friday co-op session, that will run June-December 2025 (including the Fall semester; it is expected students will take a semester off from coursework to fully engage with this working mentorship opportunity.

What You Will Do:

  • Investigation of production issues, including developing and implementing solutions
  • Support thermal and/or vibration testing of products to ensure survivability or for product improvement
  • Support in-service avionics hardware failure investigations
  • Facilitate build of prototype assemblies for testing
  • Create mark-ups for drawing revisions

What You Will Learn:

  • Learn about applied research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.
  • Learn test models of alternate designs and processing methods to assess operating condition effects. Produce parts, designs, or sketches for machines, components, systems or work orders / purchase requests

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.
  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or granted refugee or asylee status) as defined here: https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-22/chapter-I/subchapter-M/part-120/subpart-C/section-120.62

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Be currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Have demonstrated problem solving skills and an understanding of engineering principles
  • Have experience with 3D parametric modeling in CAD tools such (e.g. NX, Solidworks, etc.)
  • Basic understanding of thermodynamics
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing methods & limitations (i.e. sheet metal fabrication, machining, casting, plastic molding, etc.)
  • Be able to work well in a team environment (team player with great attitude)

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products. Must be a commutable distance to Cedar Rapids, IA to work an onsite schedule. This position may be eligible for relocation.

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
