Job Purpose
The purpose of the Electrical VDC/BIM Designer is to create and maintain accurate Building Information Models (BIM) for electrical systems using Revit and AutoCAD. This role involves setting up projects, implementing design markups, placing and updating components, and ensuring BIM accuracy and compliance. The designer participates in coordination meetings, resolves issues, produces shop drawings, and generates material and production cards in Manufacton. Additionally, the role involves creating Trimble files for field installation and supporting continuous improvement initiatives while upholding company core values in all tasks and interactions.
What You'll Do
- Set up Revit and/or AutoCAD projects based on project specifications.
- Review design engineer and field foreman markups, as well as contract drawings, to produce accurate Building Information Models (BIM).
- Place assemblies and electrical components within the Revit model.
- Update the model throughout the project according to project specifications and team direction.
- Consistently meets all deadlines as directed by the Pre-Construction Manager, BIM/VDC Manager, Project Manager, and/or Field Foreman.
- Adheres to NEC, CEC, and CECI standards and best practices for installation when placing components.
- Maintains a high level of accuracy with minimal errors in work.
- Places components in the model at correct elevations and locations.
- Demonstrates the ability to work independently and remain focused on assigned tasks.
- Verify that all electrical components are correctly placed in the BIM.
- Upload the BIM model to the project host site in compliance with project specifications.
- Participate in all coordination meetings as per the project schedule.
- Communicate and coordinate with other trades to confirm electrical needs and connection points.
- Address and resolve coordination issues and clashes promptly to adhere to project deadlines.
- Adheres to all deadlines as directed by the Pre-Construction Manager, BIM/VDC Manager, Project Manager, and/or Field Foreman.
- Completes all model uploads and conflict resolutions in accordance with project requirements and deadlines.
- Attends all coordination meetings as scheduled.
- Applies NEC, CEC, and CECI standards and best practices for installation when resolving conflicts during coordination efforts.
- Maintains a high level of accuracy with minimal errors.
- Collaborates effectively with other trades during coordination efforts and remains composed in challenging situations, including during and after meetings or issue resolution.
- Creation of Shop Drawings
- Create installation and shop drawings necessary for field use and prefabrication.
- Develop any additional details required for installation, prefabrication, or Requests for Information (RFIs).
- Consistently meets project deadlines.
- Produces work with minimal errors and omissions.
- Ensures detailing adheres to CECI standards.
- Presents detailed work in an organized manner, effectively communicating installation or fabrication instructions to the field and/or prefab shop.
- Demonstrates the ability to work independently to create accurate installation and shop drawings.
- Updates and distributes drawings promptly as required.
- Generate material cards in Manufacton for prefabrication purposes.
- Create production cards in Manufacton for prefabrication needs.
- Creates material lists in Excel or Revit schedules according to project requirements.
- Develops prefab assemblies lists in Excel or Revit based on project specifications.
- Ensures minimal errors in Manufacton entries.
- Orders materials using the Manufacton Catalog.
- Utilizes accurate production assembly times for Production Cards.
- Trimble Files for Field Installation
- Accurately place Trimble points within the project.
- Produce and send Trimble point files to the field installation team.
- Places Trimble points accurately for installation.
- Sends Trimble point files to the Field Foreman for layout purposes.
- Consistently meets all deadlines.
- Perform any other job-related duties or function as assigned by management.
- Accountable for leading efforts in implementing continuous improvement initiatives and methodologies to improve processes and increase efficiency.
- Participate in CECI Continuous Improvement events as needed (ex: JDI, RIE & A3's)
- Maintain SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures) for compliance practices and other associated functions.

What You'll Bring
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of a two-year degree or certificate program in Revit and AutoCAD, or an equivalent combination of education, technical training, and related experience in the electrical contracting or a comparable industry.
- A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in electrical contracting or a similar industry.
- Strong analytical skills to identify and address coordination issues, clashes, and technical challenges promptly and efficiently.
- Precision in modeling electrical systems, creating accurate shop drawings, and ensuring BIM data integrity.
- Capacity to work effectively within a team, participating in meetings and collaborating with other trades to achieve project goals.
- Flexibility to adjust to varying project needs, software tools, and changes in project scope or requirements.
- Expertise in managing BIM data, including setting up projects, verifying model accuracy, and resolving coordination issues with other trades.

- In-depth knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD software for modeling electrical systems, as well as familiarity with BIM processes and standards.
- Comprehensive understanding of electrical systems and components to accurately model, coordinate, and create detailed drawings.
- Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies and practices, with the ability to implement initiatives and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for enhanced efficiency.
- Ability to clearly articulate technical information and coordinate with team members and other trades to resolve issues and ensure alignment on project requirements.
- Ability to generate material and production cards in Manufacton and create accurate Trimble files for field installation.
