The Accounting Specialist will play a key role in supporting the Atos Accounting and Finance Department by assisting with a wide variety of accounting tasks. These tasks may include managing accounts payable and receivable, handling sales and use tax, ensuring compliance with income tax regulations, assisting with month-end close processes, and performing account reconciliations. The role will also involve contributing to special projects as needed. Additionally, the Accounting Specialist will collaborate with internal teams and interact with external tax authorities to support accounting processes and ensure regulatory compliance.
Main job responsibilities:
Sales and Use Tax Activities
Primary contact for sales and use tax matters
Assist with creating and documenting sales and use tax policies and procedures
Support sales and use tax registration in unregistered states
Help set up accounts in unregistered states
Ensure proper reporting is in place to reconcile returns to the general ledger
Ensure exemption certificates are current
Address inquiries and requests from third-party vendors
Sales and Use Tax Return Preparation
Act as liaison for the preparation of sales and use tax returns
Coordinate with third-party preparers to ensure accurate submissions
Ensure the payment system is up to date with third-party preparers
Income Tax Requests
Primary contact for income tax-related requests
Assist with creating and documenting income tax policies and procedures
Collaborate with third-party preparers to ensure timely filing
Support data requests from third-party preparers
Help with income tax registration in unregistered states
Unclaimed Property Process
Assist with the creation and documentation of unclaimed property processes
Special Projects
Assist with special projects impacting various accounting areas (AP, AR, Fixed Assets, General Accounting, etc.)
Month-End Close Support
Participate in the month-end close process
Prepare journal entries
Assist with closing subledgers
Help with consolidated submissions
AR and Accounting Backup
Close the AR subledger at month-end
Provide backup for other accounting functions, including Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
Ensure proper segregation of duties within a small team
Additional Duties
Provide backup for payroll processing
Perform other duties as assigned by the Financial Controller
Basic Qualifications:
Accounting degree in related field plus 2 years of relevant experience
OR
High school diploma plus 5-7 years of relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications:
2 or 4 year degree in Accounting preferred
Proven experience in Sales and Use Tax management
Knowledge of SAP, COGNOS, Sales Tax Office desired.
Competencies:
Demonstrate assertiveness and strong organizational skills
Ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently
Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to maintain precise and error-free records
Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated PC and keyboarding skills that include word processing, efficient use of internet and email, and Microsoft Office.
