What are the responsibilities and job description for the Materials Handler III - Durango position at Colorado Department of Transportation?

New employees to the State will be paid biweekly. There are 26 biweekly pay periods in a year.
About the Unit:
The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has an opening for a Materials Handler III with our Region 5 stockroom team in Durango. This team provides all needed supplies to maintenance employees in a fast and efficient manner, including supplies for vehicle repair, safety, road maintenance, traffic, snow removal, building supplies, and other maintenance materials.
About the Position:
As a Materials Handler III, you will provide support to the maintenance staff by maintaining stockroom, ordering supplies, providing supplies to maintenance employees, following procurement rules and regulations and working with vendors to make sure orders are fulfilled correctly. The position orders, inspects, counts, stores, and issues materials to the maintenance staff.
Your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Research best price for materials based on procurement rules and price agreements;
- Create Purchase Orders for the restock of supplies and process reservations;
- Work with maintenance customers when filling orders;
- Process incoming requests for supplies, the shipping of supplies to the field, and receipt of supplies from the vendor;
- Perform in depth inventory once a year;
- Recommend new products; and coordinate with other regions when understocked or overstocked;
- Communicate with vendors to set up ordering and delivery schedules;
- Use computer program for Materials Resource Planning which helps to maintain the proper number of supplies;
- Enter goods receipts into SAP;
- Perform periodic and yearly inventory reconciliation to ensure accuracy of inventory control measures;
- Create purchase requisitions and purchase orders when placing orders;
- Develop strategies for stock handling, storage and location, cycle counting and issuing of goods;
- Cross-train Material Handler IIs on the process for the creation of Purchase Order Requests;
- Recommend procedures and guidelines which apply to material handling and control within the warehouse;
- Operate forklift and front end loader;
- Perform and assist in the daily planning and scheduling of activities in assigned work area;
- Attend all required trainings;
- Abide by all safety regulations, policies and procedures and wear all required personal protective equipment;
- Other duties as assigned.
