Colorado Enterprise Fund
Denver, CO Full Time
POSTED ON 1/10/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 3/5/2025

Organization Description

Colorado Enterprise Fund (CEF) is a nonprofit business lending organization dedicated to the success of small businesses in Colorado. We provide access to capital for Colorado small businesses that are unable to access traditional financing. Our primary focus areas are business owners who may be low to moderate income, minority, women, or veterans. We’re committed to creating meaningful impact in Colorado’s communities by providing equitable and affordable business financing for entrepreneurs who cannot access bank loans or other financial resources.

At CEF we see our community impact through job creation, wealth building for disadvantaged populations, and the growth and success of the businesses we fund. As a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), we offer loans, grants, and free business coaching to entrepreneurs to help them succeed.

Colorado small business owners and entrepreneurs seek aid from our organization in moving towards the major step of asking for financial loans that they have not been able to find from traditional resources such as banks.

Overview of Position

The role will be a key player within the CEF Finance and Data Strategy (FDS) team, led by the Chief Financial Officer. The FDS team adds value to the mission and organization through data-enriched financial storytelling that informs CEF’s strategy and optimizes its resource decisions. FDS represents CEF in external relationships with funders, auditors, raters, banks, and vendors, and it leverages these partnerships to maximize CEF’s strategic flexibility and net assets.

The Director of Financial Planning and Analysis leads the organization’s planning and forecasting, grant budgeting, compliance, and external stakeholder reporting activities. Ideal candidates will have a minimum 7 years, preferred 10 years, of relevant financial experience of increasing scope and complexity.

Essential Functions

Planning and Forecasting: In partnership with the Chief Financial Officer, the Director leads the budgeting process for annual, quarterly, and monthly budget development, multi-year and in-year forecasting, variance analysis, KPI insights, and reporting to stakeholders including department heads, the CEF Executive Team, and the Board of Directors. The Director leads ad-hoc financial analysis and decision support, and partners with the Controller to develop, maintain, and continuously improve the budget vs. actuals data and reporting environment.

Grant Budgeting and Compliance: The Director is responsible for grant-related budgeting, compliance, and quarterly/annual deliverables in support of one-time and recurring grants, including the federal Small Business Administration (SBA) Technical Assistance Grant. This effort requires engaging with CEF leaders to develop grant budgets which promote organizational goals and are compatible with and complementary to CEF’s core operating budget; maintaining fluency in evolving rules and standards at the SBA and other grantors; and establishing consistent processes for ongoing grant compliance deliverables and internal resource tracking.

External Stakeholder Reporting: The Director oversees and optimizes the quarterly/annual reporting cycle in which CEF provides financial and programmatic performance updates to its funding partners, including federal/state/local governments, banks, foundations, and other impact investors, and to its rating agency. The Director collaborates with colleagues including the Director of Data Analytics, Controller, and Director of Business Operations to optimize these reporting production processes and their underlying systems.

Coaching and Supervision: The Director coaches and supervises financial analysts and directs the scope of project work for contractors as needed.

CEF offers a hybrid work environment with a blend of in-office and remote work. As an established CDFI, we offer the following:

  • Health, vision, dental and life insurance, as well as employer paid short-term and long-term disability coverage. CEF also offers a 403b retirement plan with employer match up to 5% of an employee’s contribution. Our paid time off policies include ten (10) paid holidays per year, paid vacation, and paid health and wellness time.
